Tom is a good sportswriter, good enough to have invented the Total Average stat.

He's not very happy with the way the Snyders handled Cousins.

Kyle has the 49er job now. He doesn't even have to take out a full-page ad that says: "Endure Danny for one more year, then come to San Francisco, oh, wonderful quarterback whom I taught." And Sean McVay has the L.A. Rams job. Cousins has to think that he has TWO coaches that value him, have always been on his side and will have his back in hard times if he just waits out the Skins, gets tagged again, then leaves after '17. Besides, wouldn't you rather be with a head coach who's at the beginning of his contract rather than one, in Jay Gruden, who is approaching the end of his.

I doubt the Skins will not at least give Cousins a franchise tag. I think they're not fully sold on him because he gets off to slow starts in games and performs best when the team is behind...but, he helped put them behind in the first place. They also gave him a lot of easy throws due to McVay's creative play designs and the refs not catching onto to the fact that Crowder illegally picks defenders off all over the place.

The problem for the Skins is that they have nobody beyond Cousins to play QB and this is a weak draft class for QB's. Of course, Snyder's ego is always the wildcard in all of this. He may get furious with Cousins for wanting a bigger deal and may pull the plug all together.

Cousins puts the Sk*ns in a bind, no doubt. When you have a QB friendly system, it'd be nice to get the benefit of that an not have to overpay the guy who can run it. Problem is, the market is the market and somebody else will overpay that guy for you if you don't do it yourself. But as long as you're unsettled at QB you can't really get to work seriously fixing everything else that's wrong with your team.

Best option for the Sk*ns is to get the guy into a good deal that flexes into a great deal if he hits achievable metrics you set for measuring the quality of his play relative to your system. But that presupposes he agrees the system works to his benefit and that no other team would overpay without the performance hurdles outright. In this league, Cousins really has them over a barrel.

Good for him. He bet on himself, and it paid off. Plus, he's a pretty cool dude and a decent QB. Plus, it hurts the Skins.

Cousins has really done well and took full advantage of his situation. Too me, he is just slightly above average and got real lucky in Washington.

I will laugh my *** off if they lose Cousins...picked Griffin and Cousins in the same draft, lol. We got our guy in day 3 and I would not trade him for anyone. I love seeing the racial slurs fail. I wish I could meet Snyder, I grew up poor and never had much, but I'm a good foot taller than him. Wish my family gave me free money to buy the Cowboys..

It amazes me how little skins fans value Cousins. Most of the skins fans I know say "let him walk". Whaaaaa??!! Cousins is the best QB the skins have had in two decades. Is he Brady or Rodgers? No. Will he ever be? No. Cousins is a very good QB, probably in the top 10-12 in the league right now. That is good enough to make them a contender if you build the rest of the team around him. The team and their fans want their QB to be the next Brady or Rodgers, but they don't realize that those guys are once in a decade type QB's. They might never find a QB like that. In fact, it is much more likely that the next 5-10 QB's they bring in will be worse(or much worse) than Cousins. Just look at your teams QB history skins fans. Tell me what QB in the last 20 years was better than Cousins? None. Ahh, what do I care? I hope they don't sign him. Or even better, franchise him and trade him for some draft picks that you'll totally botch!

One thing to remember, Snyder grew up on the Joe Gibbs Skins where they had a lot of plug-n-play QB's. I don't think he's ever fully ready to get rid of those 80's Skins philosophies.

And you can never be surprised if Snyder's ego gets in the way and he takes a player to task because his agent wants far more than Snyder is willing to give.

You're really good about being out of touch with the world and how it works. I've noticed this with your other posts. Whatever you're smoking please share with the rest of us.

Expected? We gave this boy a chance. He OWES us. He's a punk for putting himself before the Lombardi, before the team.

Im not a fan of Cousins attitude, but he's doing ok and the Skins have no other options. The smart move in this scenario is to keep the current QB short term - even if over paying in the short term - to buy time to look for a permanent.

While the franchise tag does over pay, it is a lot better than being stuck with a multi year contract with loads of dead money. You essentially pay a small premium for flexibility to get rid of the player after a year or two.
