Tomorrow will determine just how good this coaching staff is

The defense will dictate the play calling more than anything. Tough to run it a ton if they're scoring 7 on every possession.

Exactly!

If our defense is holding their ground, it becomes a manageable game. Forcing Orton into a shoot out doesn't bold well.

Doesn't Philly run a no huddle offense? I know he was very gimmicky (sp?) at Oregon.

I think we won't be able to run early because if im Philly the first thing i do is stop the run. Second get Orton in passing downs and blitz, force Orton to throw and make plays.Orton is going to have to make plays early and force Philly to defend the pass.Philly knows they can gamble early because Cowboy D is bad and they should be able to put points on the board.

If I'm Garrett, I'd grow a set early and take some shots deep, gotta show them Orton will air it out. Seam Pass to one of the young TE's if they show double on Dez

If The Cowboys get too far behind, Orton's going to have to pass.

Agree.......Garretts scheme has gotta allow for getting Orton comfy throwing it...........we don't have the Line to just go 4 yrd and a cloud of dust

.........also tough to run if Philly stacks the box and virtually forces Orton to a passing option.........The line Orton doesn't have the options Romo has is a smokescreen......

That's what the Eagles will do. They'll definitely put 8 in the box to start the game. They know that our running game with Murray has been one of our strengths of late and will be keying in on that from the get go. With all of those men in the box they'll blitz as well.

It'll be tough to run on 8 in the box. Good coaching would be able to recognize what the Eagle's will do or is doing and make them pay for putting 8 in the box and blitzing. I think the Eagles are cocky enough to leave Dez in one on one coverage in order to stop the run and blitz Orton into turnovers and sacks. That's where our offense can take advantage. Not saying we shouldn't run the ball. We just have to hope that our coaching staff can put a game plan together to take advantage. Nobody in their secondary can cover Dez one on one. Throw it up to him and let him rip em up.

Our defense needs to do some blitzing of their own. If we send 4 then we'll get torched. We need to disguise blitz and play man to man all night. Make Foles have to decide where to go with the ball fast. I love it how everyone in the media just forgets how young he is and how much experience Orton has. Despite being a back up, I trust Orton more than Foles when it comes to making quick decisions because he has more experience. Bring in an extra safety into the box in different places and mix it up, hit McCoy hard early and see what happens. Our sorry Dline pushed their Oline around the first time, they can do it again. It's up to our coaches to get them ready and fired up.

Overall, anything is better then just lining up 4 down linemen on defense and sitting back in zone coverage. If we do that we'll give up 40 points.

I don't think we'll win, but I know we can win. Listening to the media you'd think that we don't have a single advantage in any facet of the game. It would be nice, after 2 straight years of losing at the end for the division, to see this coaching staff actually outcoach an opponent that is way overrated and rather arrogant. It would be nice to see a coaching staff fire up this team and have them focused. You don't need world beaters at every position for that.

Regardless of results (unless it gets out of hand). We should be able to see what exactly is Garrett's system.

Romo has been checking out whenever he wants, something Orton won't do, and drawing up plays in the dirt according to Jerry.

If we still see 40-50 passes then we know there's no hope for Garrett. However we should see a more downhill running approach with Dez to take pressure off.

I'm not sure it will be an accurate measure of Garrett's system. I would expect the coaching staff to call more running plays than usual with Romo out.

So if the offense is balanced, it might just be a product of having to play the backup QB.

More than likely we will see how bad Romo is when Orton lights it up with all these weapons at his disposal.. Garrett is just a scapegoat for a declining QB...

See you tomorrow at around 11 PM CT and we'll discuss.

I think this will be a great test to see what kind of a head coach Garrett really is. No sandlot Romo to make the offense look better than it really is. Let's see how he coaches and what kind of game plan he has? If we win Or if we're competitive throughout I will certainly give him koudos.

If anything I'd like to see the team come out throwing tomorrow night. Dallas is going to have to put points up to win this game, and while I'm in favor of a ball-control offense for the majority of the game I think Philly will be expecting us to start out conservative. We should try and make them pay for that.

A guy who had one impressive game all season (Against Denver) but still managed to lose it by throwing that fatal pick, tons of under thrown balls to WR's that beat defenders multiple times throughout the season, tons of passes off target, lots of 3 and outs due to poorly thrown balls, tons of points left in the turf due to poor passing, a guy who fades against stiff competition but pads his stats against sub .500 teams. I did a play by play for the Packers game, Romo was horrible...

I can't believe you thought that was worthy of posting in the first place. Now you're linking to it?

no offense...but tomorrow does not determine how good this coaching staff is.

they are awful except maybe rod and the special teams coach.

Under garrett we are 5-21 against teams with a winning record.

Im pretty sure that means, A. we need much better players and B. we need much better coaches.

ultimately we all know who its all on though.

So it will be business as usual.

You could argue that the order here is interchangeable. I was flipping through channels earlier and came across Chip Kelly in a coaches segment as he was talking through a few examples of defensive looks that his staff intentionally designed to confuse the opposing offensive lines. One example resulted in a sack of Romo during the last game, the other a sack of Cutler in their game last week. As I was watching this it occurred to me, I can't think of a single sack this season that we can attribute to our coaches game planning. Whether it was Ware, Selvie or Hatcher, every disruptive play I can recall was a result of our guy simply beating the man across from him and making a play. This goes back to your first point of needing better players, but good teams get production and plays that they shouldn't as a result of coaches designing looks that put their guy in a position to exploit an opponent's vulnerability. We get none of that from this staff.

Excellent point and I think this is the case on offense too. I get the feeling that Garrett's overall philosphy is to master the basics, execute flawlessly and you should be able to beat your opponent.

This team shows very little creativity and innovation. That has to be on the head coach.

Agreed. That might have worked in the 90's when Garrett was standing on the sidelines watching a Hall of Fame QB either:

A) drop back and complete predictable passes to his Hall of Fame WR and Pro Bowl TE while being protected by an offensive line comprised of Pro Bowlers, All Pros, and anchored by a Hall of Famer...

(or)

B) handing off to a Hall of Fame RB who was running behind his Pro Bowl FB and previously mentioned offensive line.

It seems that Garrett fails to realize the great equalizer here is the salary cap. When there's no mechanism in place to limit talent accumulation, then creativity and innovation aren't as important. In today's NFL, these qualities are paramount. I can't think of the last time this team ran a flea-flicker, reverse or anything resembling outside the box thinking.

We will learn a lot about Kiffin today. Not judging him by the outcome but by how flexible he is and chances he is willing to take in an elimination game.

no warm milk for him, he could fall asleep right in the middle of warm ups the way it is now
