The Philadelphia Eagles rank ahead of the Atlanta Falcons in prospective haggling for Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Tony Gonzalez , according to Don Banks of SI.com.
Per the report, the Eagles have assigned a third-round value via a trade for Gonzalez, who wants out of Kansas City. However, the Chiefs are looking for a second-round draft pick.
And the Chiefs, Banks theorizes, may be sensitive to the predictable fallout of second-guessing if they unload Gonzalez at a discounted price.
We’ve heard separately from a league source that the Eagles and the Falcons are among the potential landing spots for Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew, so both teams’ interest in upgrading at tight end seems fairly apparent

Oh man, I hope Gonzo doesn't land with the Eagles.

If he does, I hope the Chiefs get a 2nd out of it.

I'd rather they got Gonzalez than Pettigrew, honestly.

Why won't Gonzalez just retire? :laugh1:

At least with Pettigrew, it might take him a year or two to get the hang of things.

Of course, if they do get Gonzo, that probably means that Boldin is out of the running.

Pettigrew is an unknown, Gonzales had a monster year last year and looks to be a s good as ever (or almost). Maybe looking 3 years out, I would take Pettigrew, but not for this or next season.

Yeah, but Gonzalez will only be any good for a couple more years IMO. Pettigrew can give them at least six or seven years.

I think Pettigrew is one of the few true studs in this draft. I've thought that since I a saw an OSU game last year and wondered who was the big TE that was completely outclassing everyone else out there.

I'm a bit surprised that the Eagles didn't get him last season. KC was willing to move him then as well.

Anyway, I think that the Eagles know their window is closing with McNabb's age, etc., so I guess they are giving it a good shot. Can't blame them.

Of course, I hope it blows up in their face. :laugh1:

I hope they get him. He's old. Easier to chase him than a great new guy for the next 10 years.

He might be past his prime but he still can give them 1 or 2 good years, which is all they would be asking for.

BTW 96 catches, 1058 yards and 11 TDs is not past his prime....

He probably wont do that for the next 10 years but like I said he could do that for the next 2 years at the minimum, which would be all MCflabb needs.

Pettigrew is a minor threat in the passing game, he will shore up their run blocking though. Gonzalez paired up w/Westbrook & Desean will make the Eagles offense more of a threat in the passing game. It will be much tougher to place a spy on McNabb w/Gonzalez than w/Pettigrew.

But I am all for the Eagles signing older players and wreaking their cap. Cowboys have to stop playing on paper anyway. ... you are judged by the strength of your enemies ...

Here's hoping the NFCBeast is back, better than ever.

Couldn't agree more. i'd love to see them give up thier 2nd rounder for a 33 years old TE. Pettigrew scares the hell out of me. That guy is going to be a stud.

Why would anyone be worried about Philly getting a TE? We don't have Roy Williams anymore, remember? ;)

Why would we not want our enemy to get a new weapon or more ammo to shoot at us. I'd rather he stay with the Chiefs. OTOH, I won't lose sleep over it either. We still have to beat the best to be the best. OTOH, I'd rather only beat them once than have to do it two or three times. OTOH....oh to hell with it.

like I said, I am not worried in the least
