The Philadelphia Eagles rank ahead of the Atlanta Falcons in prospective haggling for Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Tony Gonzalez , according to Don Banks of SI.com.
Per the report, the Eagles have assigned a third-round value via a trade for Gonzalez, who wants out of Kansas City. However, the Chiefs are looking for a second-round draft pick.
And the Chiefs, Banks theorizes, may be sensitive to the predictable fallout of second-guessing if they unload Gonzalez at a discounted price.
We’ve heard separately from a league source that the Eagles and the Falcons are among the potential landing spots for Oklahoma State tight end Brandon Pettigrew, so both teams’ interest in upgrading at tight end seems fairly apparent

Nice sig but if we get Nicks he wears #88, wore it in college, and lots compare him to Mike. Hope we get him, just don't want to give up alot.

Pettigrew is a minor threat in the passing game, he will shore up their run blocking though. Gonzalez paired up w/Westbrook & Desean will make the Eagles offense more of a threat in the passing game. It will be much tougher to place a spy on McNabb w/Gonzalez than w/Pettigrew.

But I am all for the Eagles signing older players and wreaking their cap. Cowboys have to stop playing on paper anyway. ... you are judged by the strength of your enemies ...

Here's hoping the NFCBeast is back, better than ever.
The Eagles are making smart moves. BTW they are so far under the cap (at least 20-25 milion)

KC should take the 3rd for Gonzalez and run.

thats great and all, but the Cheifs schedule last yr wasnt anything like he'll face in the NFC East...plsu he's another yr older

like I said, I am not worried in the least

I would be worried though. Ellis, Spencer, James are not fast enough to cover Gonazalez. Hamlin, Watkins, Sensabaugh are not big enough to tackle him.

But....but...And no one seems to care that we'd get to play him at least twice a year if he comes to the division.

I don't care if he only marginally makes them better. They won't overpay for him so he won't hurt the Eagles. And he could potentially be very harmful to Dallas. Not to be feared but sure as hell don't want him around.

I don't really understand why the Eagles are looking for a TE.

Brent Celek caught 2 Td's for them in the NFC championship game. He's young and he's getting use to the system.

Atleast L.J. Smith is gone.

This would worry me a lot more than some of the other moves I've heard. I'd much rather they not get Tony to play TE for them.

There's a little thing called "depth" that might be applicable here. Besides, Gonzalez is better than Celek.

I agree with you about L.J. Smith!

Won't happen. Glazer at foxsports.com is reporting otherwise.

Tony Gonzalez is finally getting his wish.

The Chiefs have agreed to trade the perennial Pro Bowl tight end to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft, FOXSports.com has learned. Gonzalez has been the symbol of the Chiefs offense for the past 12 seasons, making 10 consecutive Pro Bowls and six All-Pro teams. Kansas City drafted him with the 13th overall pick in 1997.

We had no shot at Gonzalez.
I know. I was kidding. I remember the Cowboys were looking at him and Aikman even worked out with him. The Chiefs drafted before us.
