Tony Pauline: Cowboys may have hit a home run with Kaiir Elam

For multiple years? And now it's magically all better?
He was also said to be ill-suited to the scheme in Buffalo. We're about to learn if the notion that he's better suited to the scheme in Dallas is real. He'll either be better acclimated to the scheme in Dallas, or he won't. It was a gamble, nothing more. That's about all you get from Jerry & Son in FA.

It's not like a big investment was involved. Relax. An early pick will most likely be made for another CB in the draft for a promising CB. Did you expect magic from our FA deal? I sure didn't. Look to the draft.

I live in Buffalo and saw all the games he played. When Dallas picked him up I got multiple texts saying "sorry dude" or "hahah good luck" or "thanks for taking this loser off our hands." Yeah he's not good. Hopefully he gets better with different coaches around him.

They seem to have a policy on acquiring disappointing highly-drafted cornerbacks.

They traded for Noah Igbinoghene (1st round pick).

Traded for Andrew Booth (2nd round pick).

Now they’ve traded for Elam (1st round pick).

I like this more and more by the day

New Cowboys CB Kaiir Elam on why things didn't work out in Buffalo and his expectations going forward:"Coming to Buffalo, I was a kid that just wanted to improve and learn and really show off my talents. But I was always put in the back seat. I continued to put my head down and work, continued to make plays throughout the season and in the playoffs and stuff like that. I just took everything I learned from there and all the baggage and improvements I felt like I needed to make and just packaged it up and worked on it every day. I don't really see it as a negative. I really just see it as a growing opportunity for me to go shine somewhere else.""It was a blessing and a privilege to be traded to the Cowboys. The big market and the tradition here is something that I'm in love with right now. Being able to just go prove myself and help this team win, that's all I'm committed to right now."

I liked this trade all along. For what the Cowboys gave up based on what they could get in return, it was well worth it.

For a late round pick swap and a 7th next year, why not kick the tires on a still very young CB with first round pedigree? If Elam is a miss, the Cowboys can just let him walk next year. If he hits, they can pick up the 5th year on his rookie deal and take it from there.

I'm fine w/ this acquisition.

Looking back at his scouting report, there's just no reason why he shouldn't be a decent CB.

I thought bad knees made you not suck?
Naw. When you're ready to play but your bad knee won't cooperate, you know you're in trouble.
Playing on a gimpy leg is no way to put your best foot forward. It's a curse for one's mobility. ;)

Nope, what Dallas is doing is signing former 1st-round picks in hope they reach their full potential.

Look at all their free-agent signings and trades.
