Tony Pollard and Deuce Vaughn are going to be nightmares to handle for opposing Defenses

Clearly, you don't know nor understand football.
Maybe not. I do know what 11 yards a carry and 12 yards per reception is. ;)

Kind of wierd this turned into an Overshown thread. Both players are going to bring some unique skill sets we have been missing for several years.
I'm just dogging my UT friends here. Obviously rooting for Overshown as a Cowboy. Just hope he doesn't break an ankle in practice trying to tackle Vaughn!

I an hoping Deuce turns out to be a success in Dallas.

I don't follow college football...at all. So when players are drafted they are mostly a complete surprise to me and I have to catch up by watching various video links and assessments made by pundits covering the team.

From what I have seen to date I can't help, but think that Deuce could have a very successful career in the CFL format where there is a larger field, more emphasis on the RB as a receiver, and less violent collisions.

He just looks the part of a CFL style player.

I'm counting heavily upon Tony Pollard and Deuce Vaughn to "bring home the bacon" for us as Cowboys fans. I think they're both highly likely to please most of us with their contributions. The talent they have to put forth is and has been beyond question, in my opinion. Deuce will surprise many of us with his abilities to excel beyond that tall OL that will make his presence to disappear for most defenses. Join me in hoping that they'll stay healthy and do what they do so well. Our RB corps is in good hands . . . believe it.

I love his north/south style of running. He also prepares well when about to be hit. His low center of gravity and short area cuts are going to make many teams regret not taking him. A little more top end speed would be nice, but those short legs seem to be moving about as fast as they can.
You cannot get much lower center of gravity than 5'5 ... lol

- That 5'5 makes it difficult for the opposing front to locate him quick enuff... before they know it he is quickly in-out of holes and into second level of defenders or
around edges ..

- He's more quick than long speed fast and some things that worked so well at College level at KSU, won't show up at a much faster, more bigger-powerful
and much greater level of top at the NFL level competition .

- I don't think he will pull away from defenses frequently like he did at KSU ... but he has that stop/re-start footwork and patience working behind those big lines.
and has both run and catch skills to to factor as a change of pace specialist.

- Because of his physical limitations, coaches have to be creative and smart with the sub-packages they use him,
maximize what he does best .. minimize/hide what he does not do best.

While I won't say Deuce is/will instantly be the No.2 backup behind Pollard...

I think it's an adjustment to NFL game adapting to NFL speed and pace.
NFL level of conditioning. .upgrading blitz blocking, being on same page with QB in reading hot blitz pick, blocking out of unbalanced alignment/slot
acute pass routes, learning to run off zone stretch run scheme.

This is actually why I believe vet RB Ron Jones will start out as the No.2 backup... with Deuce subbing in certain packages and substitution sets.

I think this is going to be a fun season. Vaughn and Pollard are quick and shifty. I wonder if McCarthy will have packages where they're on the field at the same time. Perhaps we will see Pollard in the slot and Vaughn in the backfield for some plays. Or, there was the formation he ran in Green Bay where they had three backs in the backfield. I could see them putting Luepke, Pollard, and Vaughn in the backfield.

Jones prolly won't make the team.

I look at Deuce and I see a shorter version of a bunch of different backs. McCaffrey, Shady McCoy, Emmit Smith, Hershel Walker, Tony Dorsett, etc etc.
You can tell the guy has studied them all; he does all of their moves. He's worked on those moves, with a scout, so he knows what is up. I expect him to blow fans away too. All of our picks are a fit. He gives us something we need. Same for Fehoko, imo.

Jones prolly won't make the team.
I think he has to.

You can't trust Malik Davis down the stretch. They had to pull him because he sort of went half-assed through the season because of lack of opportunities. Probably why Zeke is gone. Malik outperformed him in practice. I just don't think they fully trust him. That's why they brought in Jones. I actually think he makes the team. Everyone says he doesn't do anything really well, but he does a lot of things pretty well. So he has value.

I see what you are saying. But I think he can adapt. He's got the athleticism to do it. It's just going to be on a different speed but I think he has the mentality to grasp the speed of the game, and rise above it to his talents. That's the kind of player this guy is.

He dominated in college for a reason. Dude is explosive. If he works on one trait from now until the season, it should be his explosiveness.

I hope this is correct ....... I have this feeling that Pollard is not gonna be able to stay healthy starting this year.

There is no evidence to support this ...... its just a feeling.
And you would be rational and applying critical thinking to wait and see how Pollard bounces back from his injuries…….just like it would be rational to actually wait and see how Deuce will perform in a REAL NFL game before declaring him the “ giver of nightmares“ to defensive coordinators.

I don’t begrudge fans from being excited about potential in players but some of us operate in a more measured way…..me hoping , and me predicting in absolutes ,are two very different things

It's been a history and several upon several RBs at college level that have dominated.

What you dominated at in college may be a totally different animal at the NFL level.

Vaughn's challenge is proving he can perform consistently at the NFL level
