I shall refrain and allow @Risen Star to write his missives over the greatest running talent on this team since Emmitt.

Quality players at every position can be found after the first round. High picks just improve the odds

As RB's aren't valued as much as other positions, the good runners slip out of the first round. More so than other positions.

Importance depends on the offense you want to run. A balanced offense requires quality at the RB position. And, of course, if a RB slips in the draft, that means more teams have a shot at him, which can reduce the odds of getting the one you want.

Not sure what you are getting at. If RB's are slipping, which they typically do, then that means all teams have a better shot at getting one later in the draft. This is a well known fact. I'm not making something up here.

You can also get good RB's in FA every year. Like this year you could have gotten Gurley for 6 million per year and Melvin Gordon for 7 or 8 million per year.

And if you are team like the Cowboys and you have a great Oline, then you can get away with NOT having to get some all world back. Those holes will be there.

The way McCarthy failed to use Aaron Jones over Jamal Williams makes me think that Pollard will be in for a quiet year. Maybe KM will force him onto the field.

I am weary of judging any running back before two full seasons of carries in the NFL.

Too many times we see rookies with fresh legs and only a "look for a gap" mentality impress in their first season and then drop off in their second season when they take on more responsibilities and are told to be more patient.

Hopefully, Pollard is one of those who continue to improve rather than regress.

He couldn't even start in college. I just don't see it.
And you're a former coach! A head coach!
If there are alternate universes... I'd have probably played under you.

My basketball coach hated me, but I think I would have responded to a football coach better.
Basketball was fun and fluid. It's like the game of Go. I understood it, on a second-by-second level, but we were doing a framework of what we thought would be successful.
I was darn good, by the way.
Football is Chess, with it's turns and pauses, on a grand level and it's always fun to play for someone that makes you feel like the next move is one that is going to be a part of the big plan of victory.
Especially situational.

Well using that logic Tom Brady didn’t start over Drew Henson. We know how that turned out.

Pollard also had a NFL running back start in front of him in college. He’s probably the Rams starting running back this year.

Hopefully he doesn't go the Way of the Hambrick.

I get that, he's good. But, I just don't get all the love about an average player. Is he better than Zeke? He's cheaper and I think that is the allure.

And Dak Prescott would have never started over Romo. He wasn't even slated to start over the backup Moore in his Rookie year. You are right, you never know.

Pollard did well last season . With zeke underperforming , and the resulting 8-8 record , you wonder if zeke’s cap hit and cost was worth it . Not sure zeke’s presence or absence would have made a difference.
