Does it scare anyone else that Tony keeps mentioning that he will only play 5 more years in the league, and that's if he's lucky?

He's probably right. He'll be 32-33 in 5 years. QB's usually don't have much more time than that. Few fans realize how big the injury rate is in the NFL and how much of an impact it makes on a player's effectiveness. For every Warren Moon, there's a Chad Pennington whose star suddenly doesn't shine so bright due to injuries. It's not impossible for Romo to play until he's 35, but there is some luck involved with that.

Tony says a lot of crazy things. He also keeps mentioning that nobody will talk about him once he retires.

He had an interview this off season answering the contreversy about not winning a playoff game.

Then at halftime yesterday they showed a sit down interview with Phil Simms.
He told Simms that he'd be lucky to be playing in 5 years.

I took that more as a "aww shucks, I'm not really that good" comment. Just him keeping his head straight instead of thinking he is the greatest QB ever.

He said the same thing last year and probably say it again next year.

Most of the big-time QBs make it until their mid to late 30s. And Romo has the advantage of not having taken the beating that many QBs had already sustained by his age.

He plays everything off. I don't read anything into what he says. He'll be playing 8 years from now when he's 36, bet on it my man;)

In your early 30s, your flexibility usually begins to diminish. And knowing Tony, he wants to be able to focus on his dream of playing in major PGA tournaments when he's still in peak physical condition. So, go out and get 3 SB's in the next 5 years and good luck with the golf thing, Mr. Romo. =]

go Cowboys :starspin

No, I think he said nobody will talk about this or that after he retires,. i.e., botched snap etc.....

I've heard him say it twice in interviews, and both times it was in response to a question/remark about his fame and so forth. I interpreted the remark exactly the same way, numnuts.

I think it's his way of being humble and making himself out to be nothing special. A regular player that plays for a handful of years and goes away and nobody remembers him. I seriously doubt that he truly believes this. He's a competitor that wants multiple rings and to achieve greatness. I was just thinking about how incredibly fortunate we are to have this guy at QB. For all of Dallas' poor personnel decisions over the past dozen years, finding this franchise QB made up for A LOT of that. It's just good to sit back and count your blessings sometimes, you know? I can't believe I just said "blessings" in a football post....:

I think he's pulled out this answer to two similar questions he's been asked this off-season.

How do you deal with all the off the field media attention?

He just trying to say that once he's retired it will die down. Not no one will care about him once he's out of football as if he was a failure.
Just that the intensity of the coverage will die down.

I think he means 5 years after this one or 6 more seasons total because that's his contract length.

Shoot you guys just burst my bubble.
I had heard him say that and was sure he was going to take up that singing career that he would be so good at in 5 years. Guess we'll have to wait longer huh?
