Tony Romo 5 year plan

it was a generic answer he gave

at 6-2 he is probably about right. Though impressed he is staying in pocket more but he lacks the 6-5 frame to take the hits long term

I think he's just stating the obvious of how things usually work for NFL players. If he can play another 8 years, at a high level, I'm sure he'll gladly do so but he's not going to run around saying "Oh yeah I got 8 or so more years in me." when the usual rate for QBs, and players in general for that matter, to start to really decline is 32-34. I mean Troy was only 34 when the concussions finally caught up with him and took him out too.

I took that more as a "aww shucks, I'm not really that good" comment. Just him keeping his head straight instead of thinking he is the greatest QB ever.

Agreed on tge "aww shucks"

"Fame is fleeting... you wont want to talk to me... you will be talking to another QB" etc....

He plays everything off. I don't read anything into what he says. He'll be playing 8 years from now when he's 36, bet on it my man;)

He does.

I could easily see him signing a contract extension or a new deal all together in a couple of years.

I also agree that we are very fortunate to have this guy at QB. I saw the interview and have nothing but admiration for him. I don't think he was laying out a plan but just realizes that it won't last forever.

I also loved his response to the question about would he like to fast forward to the playoffs. He said he is enjoying practice and playing too much, he didn't want to fast forward through any part of it.

He's the man!

He's probably right. He'll be 32-33 in 5 years. QB's usually don't have much more time than that. Few fans realize how big the injury rate is in the NFL and how much of an impact it makes on a player's effectiveness. For every Warren Moon, there's a Chad Pennington whose star suddenly doesn't shine so bright due to injuries. It's not impossible for Romo to play until he's 35, but there is some luck involved with that.

YAKUZA

very true. We were spoiled by Emmitt Smith and some of us thinks players are supposed to come like him.

Romo is just being a realist. Not everyone can play into their forties like Farve.

Look what happened to Troy

Does it scare anyone else that Tony keeps mentioning that he will only play 5 more years in the league, and that's if he's lucky?

Not really. I think the 5 years is a figurative number. He may only play 5 but that is down the road and if healthy and still enjoying the game then I would expect him to play longer. Most guys who make it tend to play this game longer than they intended so it would not surprise me a bit if Romo played beyond the 5 he has talked about

Dude, are you seriously this dense? Height has absolutely nothing to do with the ability to 'take hits'. I mean, that's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

If he was playing any other position on the field, I'd probably agree with him. But presently, QBs enjoy the most forgiving age curves in the NFL, in large part due to the extensive measures put in place by the NFL to protect their most important investments.

We can disagree without the questioning of another poster's intellect.

I don't agree with his point but there is a more sensible way to express it.

Go to your bedroom and stay there until your Father gets home.

Five years from now Romo will be two /thirds of the way through a Hall Of Fame career. He wont quit until that job is finished.

Romo is more like Favre than Aikman. He doesnt take hits.

That will help. But no one really "gets to" him.

No.

Chuck Norris said it doesn't scare him either.

If Chuck Norris was QB, we wouldn't need an O-Line. The Defense would run over each other to go the opposite direction and Chuck could walk to the endzone.

Correction: Chuck could make the endzone come to him.
