IRVING, Texas -- For the first time since 2012, Tony Romo's offseason does not revolve around rehab from back surgery.
In 2013, Romo had a cyst removed from his back that kept him out of the offseason program, organized team activities and minicamp. In 2014, Romo recovered from surgery for a herniated disc that kept him out of the 2013 regular-season finale and did not take a snap until training camp began.
“This is the first offseason where I’ve been able to kind of get after it this early and be able to kind of improve in a lot of different areas that I think you aren’t able to until you get healthy enough to attack it,” Romo said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. “I’m just excited about that, really.”

Am I the only one that notices Romo say "Well, I think" a ton?

This offseason, has been exciting. I understand, some people saw a lot of players leave, but I honestly believe they have improved. I hope Romo, has another 5yrs.

Its to help perception of when talking to people they think you're a condescending jerk and know it all. It sucks...I deal with it myself. I cant just answer a question without people think im condescending because I am simply giving an educated response.

Biggest challenge -- and I don't even know if this is possible -- is can he get to a point where he recovers faster? I know that given the season he had they probably will not veer from the Wedbesday rest thing, even if he could go. But he's got to be more functional on Thursday games... you can't just basically forfeit a game when you are vying for the top seed in the conference. Either that or they need a much better backup.

I found it interesting that he's not putting any weight on his back during workouts, ie squats. Probably means leg presses as well.

I have two ruptured disks in my lower back and avoid those lifts as well. I also know how important those lifts are to an athlete. I also know that if I'm not very careful when working out that I can easily hurt myself and not be able to walk for a week.

Keep in mind that THAT particular Thursday game was the ONLY game in which Romo didn't take a pre-game shot and he said that it absolutely affected his mobility tremendously. I'm o.k. with where Romo is in his career to let him sit a day of the week. It's prudent going forward and really had very little impact on the season overall. The Philly game was a lesson to him and the staff. I don't think they make the mistake again.

Meh, leg presses and squats are more critical to other positions. I'm more focused (if I'm the training staff) on his torque and it's limitations than I am if Romo can squat a ton of weight. It's just not that critical to his position. He's not a RB or even a running QB. Work on that torque though. That's where the ball speed comes from.

Tell that to Bill Parcells. He used to rave about Vinny Testaverde and how much he could squat. How strong his lower body was and how that was very important for a QB. Driving the ball is done with your legs. Clearly we saw a big drop in Romo's ball velocity last year. That's because his lower body was not as strong.

Quarterback commandments:
1. Ignore other opinions – Press or TV, agents or advisors, family or wives, friends or relatives, fans or hangers on – ignore them on matters of football, they don’t know what’s happening here.
2. Clowns can’t run a huddle – don’t forget to have fun but don’t be the class clown. Clowns and leaders don’t mix. Clowns can’t run a huddle.
3. Fat QBs can’t avoid the rush – A quarterback throws with his legs more than his arm. Squat and run.
4. Know your job cold – this is not a game without errors. Keep yours to a minimum. Study.
5. Know your own players – Who’s fast? Who can catch? Who needs encouragement? Be precise. Know your opponent.
6. Be the same guy every day – in condition. Preparing to lead. Studying your plan. A coach can’t prepare you for every eventuality. Prepare yourself and remember, impulse decisions usually equal mistakes.
7. Throwing the ball away is a good play – sacks, interceptions and fumbles are bad plays. Protect against those.
8. Learn to manage the game – personnel, play call, motions, ball handling, proper reads, accurate throws, play fakes. Clock. Clock. Clock. Don’t you ever lose track of the clock.
9. Get your team in the end zone – passing stats and TD passes are not how you’re going to be judged. Your job is to get your team in the end zone and that is how you will be judged.
10. Don’t panic – when all around you is in chaos, you must be the hand that steers the ship. If you have a panic button so will everyone else. Our ship can’t have a panic button.
11. Don’t be a celebrity QB – we don’t need any of those. We need battlefield commanders that are willing to fight it out, every day, every week and every season and lead their team to win after win after win.

Its the way "everybody" has to talk now for all kinds of reasons. We all have to sort of become Lawyers first, in order to make it in todays world...

Well. Romo has them all down but number 7 and maybe 11 to a degree.

Still meh, to me. Joe Montana didn't have a super strong arm and he managed just fine. Romo, even with his "not as strong lower body" was still the most efficient QB in the entire league last season. Like I said, meh.

Saw this from VR weight room, Romo looks like he has been doing some back work, should be able to hold up.
