Tony Romo at his very worst wouldn't be as bad as the Cowboys' backup quarterbacks

The Dallas Cowboys are 2-5. It's worth noting that they won their first two games of the season, and have lost their last five.

With the exception of a 30-6 loss to the Patriots, the Cowboys' losses have been winnable games. Dallas blew a two-touchdown lead to Atlanta, turning a 28-14 advantage into a 39-28 loss. The Cowboys lost in overtime to the Saints. The Cowboys lost 27-20 to the Giants, a game they had tied with seven minutes to go. The Cowboys lost by one point to the Seahawks, and had the ball down 13-12 with an opportunity to win.

It's also worth noting that Tony Romo, the Cowboys' four-time Pro Bowl QB, was injured in the team's second game of the year, the last one the Cowboys won. It's not exactly groundbreaking to say the Cowboys are struggling because of Romo's injury, but it's deeper than that.

The Cowboys are losing winnable games because the performances by Tony Romo's replacements have been worse than the worst games Tony Romo has ever played...

That's a funny title for the article. It's funny because for years Romo's most ardent critics either insinuated or flat out said Romo was an average or worse quarterback. What's even more hilarious is that some of the same critics still think they're right and have always been right about Romo.

And those are the people who are clueless enough to look at the Cowboys 2-5 record and think "Boy, Romo must really be sucking. I knew I was right about him."

They're also the people who can't safely get through everyday life without wearing a helmet.

Depends on how literal you want to get with it. If I had to take Tony at his very worst...say the 5 INT Buffalo game...I would take Weeden or Cassel over him.

But, the same could be said about virtually any QB.

They should be banned from talking football.

Romo has been GREAT for years. He's carried a mediocre supporting cast for YEARS.

Played with terrible offensive lines that got him hit and hit and kept getting back up like a true champion does.

Played with recievers over the years who ran the wrong routes or would hang him out to dry and not fight for the ball or would drop passes in key situations. Dez is about the only reliable wide reciever he's had the last five years.

This defense has routinely given up big leads, be nice if someone besides DeMarcus could ever make a play.

Inept staff that essentially made Romo have to do everything and make spectacular play after spectacular player. I love how idiots bring up his mistakes at the end of games. First off every quarterback makes mistakes at the end of games and they're few and far between for Romo. All the times he's brought us back and carried us for victory. Hell this man literally broke his back for this team. I feel so saddened for him that he doesn't and likely will never win a Super Bowl. Romo deserves it. He has given everything he has to the Cowboys. The way this guy works, the way he studies film religiously, never tries to deflect blame from himself, inspires his team he is a leader.

I think it's an absolute shame he didn't win the MVP last season. As we've seen this year he's clearly been the most valuable player in the league. We can't win one game without him. It's pathetic and EMBARASSING, but also shows how great Tony is and how he's covered this team's warts and flaws for years. You could not have had a better December than Romo had and was sensational in the playoffs. Against the Lions bringing us back from fourteen down after taking a pounding from that DL and took one against Green Bay as well. On 4th and 2 made a hell of a throw and it was taken away. Just a shame. Absolute shame.

And after throwing five picks (and another giveaway on a fumble), Tony still got them in position for the game winning FG at the end. They scored 9 points in the last 20 seconds to pull that one out. That was probably more improbable than the NYG game to open this season. Don't know for sure, but I doubt Cassell or Weeden could have pulled that off.

That would certainly put a few well-known media commentators and/or ex-NFL players on the unemployment line, lol. Of course, those same few critics aren't quite as vocal on-air as they once were.

We won that game, though, while we've lost every game started by Weeden and Cassel. So, no, I still wouldn't take either one over him.

Now, Romo has had games where he played poorly and we lost, but I still wouldn't take Cassel and Weeden over him even then. There's always a chance with Romo even on his worst day while there's barely a chance with Cassel and Weeden even on their best days.

Even Romo has had 5-6 really terrible games in his long career. That's a tiny number, by the way.
Anyway, "At his worst" may be overstating it.

Now as a whole--of course--he is in another stratosphere from these guys.

Once again, Romo can thank the Giants coaching staff for allowing him a chance to win the first game, could have easily run out the clock, but chose inexplicably to pass the ball. In the second game you could argue Weeded won that game. But hey, we only have a few weeks to wait till our hero arrives. We no longer have a great QB on the roster.

Saint Peyton Manning is one who had his share of game enders in his time, including playoffs and many forget a SB loss

He may have the Giant coaches/Eli to thank for that chance but the thing is, he delivered on that chance against some pretty long odds.

It is always "perspective" or lack thereof that either blinds people or brings them to epiphanies.

Yeah I guess Romo gets no credit for a miraculous comeback. Two back to back drives. With no time outs, under two minutes, and Romo did a masterful job of dissecting the Giants defense. Not just that drive, but throughout the game diagnosing their blitzes and changing calls at the line of scrimmage and getting Dallas in the best possible play possible. Weeden absolutely did not win the game. It was already 13-3. He made one key pass, but was really more about Maxwell quitting on the play.

Didn't Weeden have a QBR over 100? Dude got betrayed
I've witnessed very good high school quarterbacks successfully throw 3 and 5 yard passes on a consistent basis in games over the years. Weeden plays in the National Football League though and the type of passes he's expected to make are somewhat more demanding so I'm not certain what's the point you are making.

Are we to take that heading literal? Need we be reminded of Romo at his worst? We didn't win then either.
