Last year for my birthday my wife asked me what I wanted. I told her to get me one of those big cakes and have Terry Glenn jump out of it. Instead out jumped some dumb old stripper.

No question that a healthy Terry Glenn is a monster. He's one of the most uncoverable guys I have seen. But the health is going to be the big question. I'd love for him to make it back - for himself and the team.

I was in San Antonio last Summer for the first practice of training camp....Terri was the best WR on the field, even TO. He looked quicker, faster, and better than every one. It really sucks, but that's the NFL.

I don't expect him to play, but if he does, it's a boon for us...

I think the plan is to let him 'work' when it's neccessary and I hate when teams do that.

It's like saying he's so fragile that just running around is going to lead to inflamation in the knee. Then what about when he takes a big hit on that knee?

I loved the dynamic Glenn brought to the offense with his quickness, great hands and deep speed, but if he can't even run around at OTA's in May then how do I depend on him when Decemeber rolls around?

Romo, Wade and Jerry are saying all the right things, but I wonder if Glenn would even be on the roster anymore if the Cowboys make a big trade? I don't think he would.

Hmmm.
For some reason Aikman praising then-draft prospect LeFleur came to mind.
And LeFleur sure surprised us.

He surprised me last year by showing how ineffective he can actually be with this injury...

Count me as one of the guys who will be surprised.

There was tons of talk about how great Glenn looked in practice toward the end of last year...

But in the games, he didn't look good at all...worse, he looked very frail...

I'll be surprised too if he can do anything.

As for Romo's comments, I take them with a grain of salt. What's he supposed to say?

Reporter: "so how is Terry Glenn doing?"
TR: "Feeble and probably not going to be effective this year."

:laugh2:

Cowboys counting on aging, injured Glenn

By JAIME ARON,

IRVING, Texas (AP) -As much as Jerry Jones wanted to add a receiver to help Terrell Owens and Tony Romo, he's struck out so far this offseason.

No free agents. No draft picks. No trades.

Instead, the Dallas Cowboys are counting on a comeback from Terry Glenn, who missed nearly all of last season because of two knee operations and wasn't on the field for the start of voluntary organized team activities this week.

Problem? Just proceeding with caution, said Jones, adding that he had "a good long personal visit" with Glenn on Monday.

"There is no medical reason right now that he couldn't come out," Jones said. "But ... we weren't going to ask him to win the Super Bowl out there. So that is a key. We don't want him to do that in training camp, but we do want him to get as much timing and as much work with Romo as he can. He's doing some receiving. And we want him to spend as much time with the young receivers as he can."

Glenn turns 34 the day before players report to training camp. Owens is 35, giving the Cowboys perhaps the oldest starting tandem in the league.

Dallas' justification is that Owens is in tremendous shape and that Glenn is still among the fastest players, even if he's lost a step because of age and injuries.

Glenn has played all 16 games only twice in his 12-year career. He's also had two seasons pretty much wiped out by injuries.

Last season, the problems began at the start of training camp. Surgery was needed, then on his first day back he was hurt again - leading to another surgery.

He recovered in time to play some in the season finale, but didn't catch a pass. He started the Cowboys' only playoff game and had two catches for 30 yards.

In Glenn's absence, Patrick Crayton emerged and Jason Witten set all sorts of club receiving records for a tight end. But neither are the deep threat Dallas needs to loosen up defenses.

Jones talked about acquiring someone else, but has spent his time and money plugging other holes. He's filled most, leaving this to the fingers-crossed belief that Glenn can pick up where he left off.

"In my mind there isn't a player out there in a given game or looking at looking at next year that could make a bigger impact to take some of the heat off of Terrell than Terry Glenn," Jones said.

"You may say, 'Well, shouldn't you be spending that much time and planning on another receiver or receivers?' We're going to do that too, we have to do that. But he's too valuable and has got too much of a chance to impact our offense to not put that emphasis on him."

Jones still has several months to make a deal, but it seems unlikely based on the disclaimers he threw out Wednesday - everything from the passing game being improved because they had upgraded the caliber of receivers at tight end and running back to saying newly acquired cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones could get spot use at receiver, if he's reinstated, of course.

"Not that I'm being defensive about it, and not that if there was any way I could improve this team I wouldn't do it, but I think we've added some punch to the offensive side of the ball," Jones said.

Maybe the best news for Cowboys fans is that Romo and coach Wade Phillips aren't worried about it.

"I think Terry Glenn is going to surprise a lot of you guys," Romo said. "He's taken the approach he's going to get healthy and when he does he will get back on the field. I assume, and I think he does, too, that he will be fine come training camp."

Phillips noted that Glenn has been working out in the team's offseason training program.

"He lifts a lot of weight with that knee and he's done well," Phillips said.

Thursday was the third day of Dallas' OTAs, wrapping up the first week. The club will continue going Tuesdays through Thursdays for three more weeks, then the following Tuesday to Thursday will be a minicamp. Then they'll shut things down for five weeks until opening training camp.

Until then, the Terry Glenn Waiting Game plays on. Will he take the field during OTAs? Minicamp? Training camp?

"I can't say anything," receivers coach Ray Sherman said. "I've had a chance to talk with him and we just have to wait and see what's going to happen."

To me all of this Cowboys counting on Terry Glenn stuff is nothing but to cover up what they wanted to get but did not get in the offseason.

We all heard that we were basically going to sign Javon Walker but Uncle Al swooped in and signed him. Some ways I think it is probably a good thing because I don't see the need to bring in another WR with knee problems and paying him more to replace another WR with knee problems.

We also have an idea that the Cowboys talked to at least one other team about possibly trading for a WR but that did not pan out.

We remember Jerry talking about a WOW player on offense, which to me it was obvious he was talking about one of the vet WRs that we did not get.

Flash to the draft. One report said we were possibly going to trade up into the second to get Hardy as he was the only WR they liked in the 2nd. That did not happen either.

Now none of those things happened even though it pretty much seems they wanted at least one of those things to happen.

Since none of those things happened, now we are back to...Hey keep an eye on Terry Glenn he could come back and blah blah blah.

Now, maybe he can come back, never really know, even though it is probably a better chance that he does not. But I think it is just a cover up of what they did not get done that they wanted to get done, and that was to bring in another WR.

Now with all of that said. We only had Terry for that last game in the regular season and we still managed to do pretty darn good with Romo setting passing records for the cowboys. We could be better, but it is not like are passing game sucked last year and I think it would not have tailed off the last game or so if TO had not gotten hurt. People forget sometimes that not only was Glenn not rusty and 100% when he came back, but TO was not 100% at that time and the giants took advantage of it.

I think that pretty much sums it up. You're fine without Glenn if you have TO. However, without TO or Glenn the offense is not nearly as potent.

Happens with every team when they lose a major playmaker or two.

If cooley would have been lost for most of the season last year, think of what would have happened with the skins passing game...not that it was great to start with but it was clear he was their best weapon in the passing game.

Yeah last season without Cooley would have been pretty brutal. But I don't think he has the same effect on his teammates that TO does. I think TO opens up a lot of space for Witten and the run game.

I was just making a point that you can pretty much find a player or two on every team that if they lost them for the season...it would hurt.

But as many have said before, you can't have a superstar player at every position these days let alone two.

Why do they keep referring to him as "injured"? He returned at the end of last season and didn't get hurt. Did he get hurt or suffer a setback since then? If they mean "chronic," then just say so.
