The Romo contract negotiations have been the hot topic as of lately. With this being the most boring time of the year sports wise, I ask the question why isn't Romo signed to a 7 year deal right now? I know he only has 10 career starts and 5 of them weren't very impressive. In fact in every Q&A I read from JJT, Tim Cowlishaw or any article in general, they're always bringing up the "final 5 games." Ok lets get one thing straight. Here are some DEFENSIVE statistics from the final 5 games...
Final 5 Games of 2006 Season (Defense)
Average PPG against: 30.4
Average rushing yards against: 140.2
Those are two very important statistics we needed to succeed in. When your defense is averaging giving up over 30 points a game and over 140 yards on the ground, you aren't giving your QB a good chance to win the game! Especially with it being Romo's first season as a starter, too much pressure was put on Romo. Tony Romo is our franchise QB. Even when the defense was stinking it up week after week in December, Romo still didn't point the finger and actually took the blame a couple times if I remember. This kid has moxie and he's ready to be the starting QB of the Cowboys for the next 10 years. The fans are excited because they know something special has been found with Romo. We'll protect him with an improved offensive line (L. Davis in, M. Rivera OUT), a solid running game, a timing based offense and a more aggressive defense that will cause more turnovers to put the offense in positions to score. It shouldn't even be in question whether or not he deserves a new contract. He's the man.
