To point to Romo's play at QB in "the last five games" the sole reason for the 2-3 record as people seem to be doing is wrong.

I have yet to see a single person who is exclusively blaming Romo for those losses.

He just did not play very well and I bet if you asked him, he would agree.

The defense was horrible in those last games of the regular season and that made the offense feel the pressure to score on every possession. That is not a recipe for success. That directly led to ints, forced passes, etc.

Remember that the team averaged over 23 points during the final five games when, supposedly, Romo was awful.

That is enough to win most games in the NFL, except when the team allows an average of over 30 points, like Dallas did in that span.

To point to Romo's play at QB in "the last five games" the sole reason for the 2-3 record as people seem to be doing is wrong.

:hammer: Also, people tend to forget the Terry Glenn fumble which lead to a Seattle touchdown, and the Witten fumbled the ball as well. Romo was not the problem in this game.

To point to Romo's play at QB in "the last five games" the sole reason for the 2-3 record as people seem to be doing is wrong.

One score was Ware's interception return against Atlanta and another was Newman's punt return against Detroit. That makes the offense scoring 20.4 points per game the last 5 games.

I don't think Romo was the major problem in those last 5 games, but he did do some things poorly. Namely protect the ball.

His fumbles were from being careless with the ball. I understand he was trying to make plays, but you can't just drop the ball as he did on a few occasions or have it easily slapped out. I can forgive the times he was blasted and coughed up the ball. Not the times he didn't protect it.

Also, some of his interceptions were just bad decisions. Of course that is what I expect from an inexperienced QB.

Not the big problem, but needs to improve. I think he will. Still, there is no rush to sign him to a new contract.

The defense's poor performance may have made us throw more,

I actually looked that up about a month ago. I figured we threw a lot more in the last 5 games but we didnt. We threw 1 more time a game but our rushes dropped by 13 a game I believe. We just didnt have the ball as much on O from the D getting it shoved down their throat.

I say sign him now. Pretty much everyone seems to agree he'll be a good QB. Why not lock him up now? If he plays like he did last year in the 1st 5 games or anywhere close and takes us deep into the playoffs or even the SB,we'll be in a bidding war with a few teams. If they lose that bidding war they'll be a lot of people wishing we would have signed when they had a chance.

Absolutely.
sign Romo to a new contract soon. Not after or during the season when he will probably be able to demand twice as much.
As for 7 years, that seems a risk.
A lot can happen in 7 years.
A middle road would be a lucrative 4-year-deal.

Here's the thing though. Jerry passed over Quinn in the draft, and Romo himself acknowledged that as an overwhelming vote of confidence. His backups are 80-year old Brad Johnson and a bunch of scrubs. He's not on the hot seat yet, and he shouldn't be feeling any pressure from the guys behind him... all year. Regardless of his performance. So shouldn't that preclude the Cowboys from HAVING to give Romo a contract? Given, we all know he's going to be in Cowboys colors next year (at least its like a 95% chance), but locking him up long term might not be a prudent business decision right now, especially considering the big contracts that will be up in the next year or so.

I also see the advantage of locking him up now (less money than if he blows up this season), but what if he doesn't blow up?

Personally, I blame Zimmer.

What's going on in this thread, fellas?
I blame Bledsoe. He lulled Parcells into a false sense of security.

How can a team pay a rookie QB big money without playing a single down in the NFL? yet it is done every year.

sign him now, another half season isn't going to tell you anything IMO

btw, I wouldn't sign him based on his play during the not-so-important 1st half of the season

I think the only thing stopping this thing from getting done right now is the parameters of a deal, not that there is any doubt if he should be re-signed to a long-term deal or not

I'd like to get Romo signed too, but we all know the down side to this signing if it doesn't work out. He could be franchised, and that would probably be the best scenario.

If Tony would go for a T.O. type deal ( big money as roster bonuses ) then I would be all for signing him now. Then he could get paid really well but at the same time it wouldn't kill us to cut him if he flops.

I never said he played the same in the losses. The Eagles game was particularly bad. Of course he would agree. He wouldn't say he played great because he didn't and because he is a team guy. He didn't say he played great in the "first five" games either.

And we must not be reading the same articles.
