That's a shame. He has a family, great career, money for generations, but it could be short lived if he's drinking too much, and taking pain pills
Damn **** is truly toxic for your body. Hopefully, he gets the right help, and can either drink here and there or off it for good.

It’s a demon.

A demon that is sent to cure the medieval torture that is back pain.

I am no stranger to back pain and decline the surgery and suffer with it everyday.

That said I have a pain tolerance level that allows me to still function at my job without ever drinking or taking drugs of any kind.

I broke three ribs and my collarbone all on the same side 4 years ago and continued operating equipment skid steer backhoe zero turn for the whole week prior to my surgery where they put in a plate and eight screws to fix my collarbone and the ribs of course had to heal themselves. I was back operating the equipment the day after my surgery.

I took absolutely zero pain medication because I have seen where that takes people and it just creates a whole other problem.

But I don't blame anybody for doing what they have to do to relieve their pain God does not provide everyone with the same pain tolerance.

Only thing I blame Tony for is not being smart enough to have somebody drive him but he is probably too prideful.
Guaranteed he got away with it so many times it just became a part of life with the pain he had to deal with.
Fortunately he has enough money he can just make it all go away and retire from everything.

He messed up. Let this be a moment in his life to learn from it, clean up his act, and push his life in a new and different direction. Some people never give themselves that opportunity. I would like to think Romo has the right people in his life to help him find that direction (like his wife and kids for starters).

Addiction is a dark place to come back from. If he can get out ahead of it before it pulls him deeper or potentially takes his life, that's fantastic. It's not like he woke up one day and decided he wanted to be here. With all the injuries and chronic pain he's dealt with, along with years of prescription pain medication, it's easy to understand how someone could potentially fall into that hole. And when those prescriptions eventually go away, you're sometimes left looking for something to fill that void....whether that's alcohol or something harder. That darkness can pull people in fast.

I'm not judging him or hating on him. I'm pulling for him.

Just speculating but I think it was because there is always that subset that has to be different. Enduring the suffering of choking down anchovies and pretending to like it separates them from the herd in their eyes.

Eventually they smartened up and looked for something not quite so intolerable and that's when the pineapple on pizza wars began.

Hey, I like anchovies on pizza! They're not that bad as long as you can tolerate the salt. But I am an equal opportunity eater. There's not much I won't try and like. I let my girl pick the restaurant, she's the finicky one.

I saw a good Youtube video last week that showed the apology strategies of celebrities when they were in hot water. And yeah, basically, the point was those who fessed up and took ownership were let off the hook, those who tried to lie their way through or reflect blame - career over.

Romo has a $180 million contract with CBS. All those getting on him for a lawyer, public statement, and so on, I think you would do the same if that type of lucrative media contract was on the line. Especially in an era where everyone is cutting back on Sports TV personalities to save money.

Work in a field that sees a lot of addiction to pain meds. With many of them, the pain is gone and the addiction remains. Once they are able to shake free and detox they will tell you the pain had stopped a long time ago. Obviously, not the same for everyone, but it's a story I've heard a lot.

I don't understand or agree with vacations right before a playoff game but apparently it is completely common so I am not holding that only against him.

It’s just not a good look. If he stayed home and still lost, no one would have questioned his preparation and dedication, but when a team busts their ***** for ~6 months, get a one week bye before a playoff game and then the QB takes off to Cabo and they lose there will be criticism and rightly so IMO.

Even opening himself up to that was stupid, he couldn’t wait a couple weeks or maybe 3, if we made it to the Super Bowl? Idiot.

And I’m not criticizing your opinion, mine is just different.

"I think maybe things happened so quickly for Tony in terms of obscurity to all of a sudden national spotlight that he hasn't fully grasped what being the Cowboys quarterback is all about," Aikman said to Irvin. "And you don't go to Cabo the week before a playoff game. You just don't do it.

I completely agree. I'm just saying Witten & Carpenter went as well. Along with many other players through the years on a lot of teams. I'm just saying ALL the players who put themselves in that situation deserve to be questioned\criticized equally. Not just the QB.

I honestly didn't even know that was a thing prior to that. I always thought the teams & players were using the extra time to rest sure but stay sharp, get extra study & walk thru's. Never thought about players taking "vacation" much less leaving town \ country during that week.

I hear ya man and I agree, I just put more criticism on the QB because he’s supposed to be the leader and has the most responsibility. I think it would be much more beneficial for a QB to watch the wild card game and analyze the defenses he may be playing more than a TE, but again, I totally get what you’re saying.

And I’m not saying Romo didn’t do that, I’m sure he did, but it brings his dedication and preparation into question when they lose. The Giants when through the same thing with OBJ, and several other players, when they went to Miami or something a week before a playoff game and pulled a red eye flight back to NY for the first practice before their playoff game. I “think” even Odell somewhat recently admitted it was a mistake and not a good look.

Of course we'd all do it to preserve the money. But I don't think anyone is "getting on him" about the statement, just calling it what it is which is a legal tool to be used when convenient. People can hero worship it into a contrite heart and a long, hard look within but it is what it is: a carefully thought-out, sympathetic piece as something he can use to protect himself down the line. It ain't much deeper than that.

Tony may have become addicted to the painkillers but I also think he still suffers the pain from what he said at the sobriety test and the fact that he was stretching after he got out of the vehicle he was in obvious pain.

Also thinking if his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit and he was still in pain and had to do the stretching exercises just to be able to do the sobriety test I would think he's probably in a good bit of back pain every day.
