If Tony throws 2-3 picks Wed night...I want to ask you to do one thing...Be prepared to actually THINK about what is going on.

Remember, Romo will be trying to move the ball and win the game against what is perhaps the best pass rush in the game...with a ridiculously pathetic offensive line in front of him. Yes, he might need to take some sacks at times, or throw it away...but there are times if the Cowboys need points Tony could be forced to throw the ball prematurely...and in that situation bad things can happen.

Here's the fan challenge:

Watch to see if Romo is getting 3 seconds in the pocket. If he consistently isn't getting 3 seconds...than those interceptions *can be* as much on the o-line as on him.

If he doesn't have 3 seconds he won't have sufficient time to read the defense, he likely won't have a receiver that has broken free. The whole passing game becomes dicey. It's like driving on ice.

The premature emasculation is the part where you as the fan could make an immature and premature conclusion about who is to blame on an I-N-T. It might be Romo's fault. But if you don't man-up and think-up you will have demonstrated to the world that you are a boy fan...not a man-fan.

Don't be that guy who posts about how Tony isn't the man for the job. That will just prove, more than anything, that you aren't the fan for the job.

Make a commitment to being a man fan. THINK about the play. Watch offensive line assignments and receiver assignments.

Excellent post, one that I wish "game day" fans who throw out the "Romo sucks" stuff would read and understand.

So many misconceptions about Romo still exist as far as the "choke" thing is concerned.

In the fourth quarter since 2008, Romo’s passer rating of 102.9 is significantly higher than his overall rating of 97.1.

It’s also higher (99.8) than normal in the fourth quarter of one-score games.

It’s also higher (97.4) than usual when the Cowboys are losing.

It’s the same (97.1) in December and January as it is in September, October, and November.

In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.

I also know...winning playoff games and Super Bowls takes care of everything else.

I think the last bit is the most news worthy stat.

Romo was on fire, and even then, that was without Murray for quite a bit.

What Romo could do with healthy weapons, and solid protection... should be scary.

Ah. Preemptive Romo defending. Yeah, what could it hurt, I guess.

Romo put up those numbers WITHOUT Murray... Imagine what he can do with him.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Murray is the difference maker.

We are now making excuses for Romo BEFORE the game is played?? If he isn't getting protection he should be throwing quick slant passes, screens, etc.

Life works better if you read. Try it!

What did I say:

Don't roll your eyes at me. ;) I was among the first to defend Romo from the swath of uneducated, misinformed, corpulent sheeple after the 2007 playoffs. I used to clash with a lot of alliterate schmucks for years about Romo.

But from what I've seen this off-season, it's become chic to defend Romo for some reason. I don't know when that started, but it did.

So, even as someone who really went to bat for Romo back in the day, it's vexatious to see people come out and preemptively defend the guy for mistakes he may or may not commit. There's really no more to discuss on Romo. He either will or he won't.

Yes, thank you for offering explanations of mistakes Romo might not even commit. We appreciate your work in alternate universes here at the Zone.

1. Romo doesn't call the plays.
2. You can't run an offense exclusively with slants and screens
3. Game situation sometimes dictate throwing the ball downfield with higher risks assumed.

Consider a hail mary. In that situation the QB isn't responsible for an interception. Game situ dictates all.

There are other somewhat less dire situations where a QB has to make a play, and risks must be taken.

A moth to a flame. Welcome to my light.

Good topic and well explained. Romo will do fine. Romo is the man and picks happen even to rodgers and brady.

Thanks.

Yes, that's the fact: Picks happen. And it isn't always an indictment on the quarterback.

1. I never said Romo calls the plays.

2. You can run an offense anyway you want. Their defense will dictate how we should run it.

3. Please stop talking about Romo interceptions before the game has even been played. Our team has been jinxed enough the last 15 years. I'm still trying to get over last years opening season loss to the Jets where Romo personally gave the game away even though the offensive line played great.
The Giants are going down this year and Romo isn't going to be a bonehead like last year.

How about if he does have 3 seconds to pass and is still throwing picks...then what?

Your two sentences completely contradict one another. You can't run any offense you want. Two easy examples: if you can't run the ball at all...that's going to push you into lots of passing downs. And if you are behind...you must be more aggressive.

Jinxes don't exist. Superstitious nonsense. What you and I post and talk about in this forum is going to impact the game in New York? Silly.
