Tony Ugoh released by Colts, worth investigating?

It would be right in line with our usual policy of giving former "first rounders" a second chance, what do you guys think? Apparently he's got a toe injury, and he's been injured in the past, but he certainly wouldn't be starting here anyway. He's got experience at both guard and tackle.

I would pick him up in a heartbeat!

He does have some injury concerns but he would make a very solid backup at both OT & OG.

If I remember correctly they gave up a ton to move up and get him.

He makes me nervous. If I remember correctly the Colts figured out he wasn't a starter pretty soon after drafting him.

Sounds like another Barron type of player.

BTW

Love your Sig Thumber. Do you still feel the same about Jerruh?

Dead on.

The knock on him was he didn't love football and only played cuz he was big and could make money.

Did not work hard in the offseason and preferred track (discus) to football. Only practiced with team for one season in spring.

Yeah, he was actually a 2nd rounder but colts gave up a 1st the following year to get him, which is why I put "first rounder" in quotes.

We need depth. Do it Jerry. Him or Hartwig.

Nah, he's been a huge bust in Indy.

Polian knows what he's doing. If the Colts are done with him then I don't think this kid is worth a look.

Just like the Bears knew what they were doing with Colombo?

Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Caldwell said today uncertainty about offensive tackle Tony Ugoh’s toe injury prompted Wednesday’s decision to release the 2007 second-round selection.

“Tony certainly has had one of those tough stretches here in the preseason, kind of up and down,” Caldwell said of Ugoh, who the Colts traded a 2008 first-round pick to move up and select.

“We were just not quite certain of his health. Consistently, he had some problems and we just were not quite certain when he was going to be able to get back. So we had to make a decision.”

Indianapolis Colts put Tony Ugoh on waived-injured list

Last year, Tony Ugoh lost his starting job. On Wednesday, he was simply out of On Wednesday, he was simply out of a job

The offensive lineman the Colts once projected as its left tackle of the future was placed on the waived-injured list after missing practice with an undisclosed foot injury. To take his spot, the Colts claimed another offensive lineman, Joe Reitz, off waivers from Miami.
Colts players and coach Jim Caldwell weren't available after practice to comment on the move, but are expected to talk about it Thursday.
Ugoh's future with the Colts had been in doubt since Caldwell demoted him from starter to backup during training camp last season. Charlie Johnson replaced him in the lineup and started 12 times with Ugoh starting the other four.
When camp opened this summer, the Colts hoped Ugoh would win the starting job at left guard, but he barely got a chance. Johnson sprained his right foot the first week of training camp, forcing the Colts to put Ugoh back in his old spot, and he spent the rest of the preseason at left tackle.
When Johnson returned to practice Wednesday, the first time he'd worked out with his teammates since August 6, the Colts wasted little time in parting ways with the 6-foot-5, 301-pound Arkansas alum.
Indy traded up to take Ugoh with the 42nd overall pick in 2007, and Colts president Bill Polian

this guy might be a steal

He looked really good for the first year or so that he played with them. Wonder what the issue was.

This, he was given every opportunity there and has not shown anything near what they were looking for.

Desire has always been his issue.

I wouldn't cut an OL to sign him.

I'd have no problem Leon, Gronk, or Church to take a look at him though.

He started out ok, but went downhill in a hurry and was benched not long after his first yr, and IIRC he was beat out by a nobody. Ugoh was never really given much of a chance afterward and it seemed everything that came out about him was negative.

Dont really see where he's an upgrade over anyone here. I certainly wouldnt waste a 2010 roster spot on him.

I think the front office should investigate Tony Ugoh thoroughly just to be safe. A lot will likely depend on what kind of grade we assigned Ugoh in the '07 draft.

Ugoh started 27 of the 37 games he played in with the Colts (23 of 26 in his first two seasons), so I don't see talent being the issue.

And they were hoping to move Ugoh inside to left guard this year and were unable to even try it when Charlie Johnson's injury forced him to stay outside at left tackle.

We are going to have an opening at left guard next year as the team seems disinterested in retaining Kyle Kosier.

While I think Polian knows what he is doing more than most, I'd take a look with goal of getting rid of Barron.

Having lived in Chicago and Indy for the majority of my life, there's no comparison between how Indy and Chicago run their organization. Polian is right a lot more than he is wrong, and the McCaskeys are pretty much clueless.

Stick to protecting our country. ;)

Bears actually never wanted to release Colombo. They tried to hide him on their practice squad but the Tuna was waiting for him. They really, really, really didn't want to let Colombo go but hey had no choice. They needed OLs and he was not anywhere near ready to play.

I'd sign him after the season to try him out maybe, but I wouldnt waste a spot this yr on him.
