Too bad no Ron Rivera interview...

He was interviewed on NFL Network after arriving in Miami earlier. No mention about Dallas interview, just the Super Bowl. Has a demanding presence and seemed on the ball. I think he would command presence in any lockeroom, and that's what we need from our next head coach, to keep things going in the right direction.

With Garret on board Dallas is not looking for a HC that can come in here and stay for 20 years. Plus Rivera is 4-3 guy. If we're keeping the 3-4 he's not quite as useful.

If Rivera and Ryan don't at least get an interview, it will prove that Jerry wasn't one bit interested in finding the best man for the job ... just the best croney for the job.

Why is it a big deal that we keep the 3-4, but not a big deal that we're going to completely shake-up the offensive philosophy behind the #4 scoring offense in the NFL?

Because in the battle of nostalgia versus logic, nostalgia spanks logic's bottom.

This is flawed thinking. Any head coach we hire doesnt have to be an expert at the systems we run. They have to be a motivator of men! Rivera has already proven he can do that in Chicago with that defensive unit the last two-three years. The DC and OC are who needs to know the respective systems we run. While it would help obviously if we ran the 4-3 and had Rivera but its more important that the players are motivated by the HC. Turner IMO is not the guy to do that....

Pure conjecture.

But I'm use to seeing posts by you take an extreme view on things.

Jerry hired Parcells, perhaps the best "name" to be available over the last decade-- and where did that get us?

Miami fans can tell you what their expectations were after the Dolphins hired the supposed "best man" for the job after Shula retired.

I'm not saying I disagree with you.

That rah-rah "motivator of men" stuff is a bit too "Knute Rockne-ish" for me. I don't see that being the reality of the situation.

Ron rivera is running lovies tampa 2. He is not married to it.

He has a versatile background.

Wholeheartedly agree, which is a rarity except for the last few days. :laugh2:

But as you said in another thread wouldnt his job be to delegate to the DC, so his system shouldnt matter its the DC that matters

That being said he's best suited as our DC and not the HC... Garrett's getting that job boys... read it and weep! It may not be this year-- but very, very soon.

Oh I agree with that.

That being said we've already locked up our "long-term" guy in Garrett.

So the media say's

But if Garrett needs a babysitter in Norv to come and mentor him, then color me unimpressed with the possibility of him being our head coach in a year or 2

I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. There are far too many variables at this point.

I'm not jumping, but if Jason is ready to run the offense then there is no need for Norv

It's pretty much unanimous around the league that Rivera is very impressive and will be a very good head coach soon. It's inconceivable that we we wouldn't at least give him an interview... Except for what IR said. :(
