Toomer: Romo better than Eli

This again, so this again:

That's career QB rating by individual games and should not be taken as indicative of current rankings. It needs to be put into a DB so queries can be queried as well and more QBs need to be added, but I have other projects.

Lost the other image I uploaded from way prior in the offseason. Here's a previous one with more specificity but less QBs: http://i.imgur.com/4aHMi.png

20 39 51.3 250 6.4 2 1 0 0 77.9
21 32 65.6 292 9.1 0 0 0 0 94.8

I saw both games and the one with 77.9 QB rating, the QB played a better game.

In other words QB ratings shouldn't be the reason to say one is better than another.

There you go...Eli got lucky, Giants got lucky against San Fran, Giants got lucky......Eli got lucky.....But if Romo/Brees/Rodgers..etc..etc...made that throw, it would be called "skill".

Go Figure.

I wish Romo was as lucky connecting with a wide open Miles Austin in a game that, if we had won, we wouldn't be talking about Eli Manning's two bling blings. :(

Nah, just Romo. :p:

How he not connect on a pass with his WR. Let's forget that he played one the best games by any QB in the league that day and his team still managed to lose.

It would be nice.

If Eli still had one ring, then media pundits would still be talking about him not being elite, not matter what else he did this past season.

If he and Romo both had a ring, it wouldn't even be a contest who's considered the better QB.

As is, the second Super Bowl title legitimizes Eli in the minds of many. I can't do that because the consistency (of excellence) in his career just isn't there. As I've said before, a few more seasons like 2009 and 2011 and I think Eli will deserve all the accolades he gets. At this point, he just has two seasons where he's played at/near the same level Romo has throughout his career.

You can't do it because Romo is in the way in your mind. You can't be truly honest with yourself and give Eli the respect he deserves because of your homerism for Romo. If there was no Romo, you would be saying Eli is elite.

If Romo "leads" his team to a Superbowl victory very soon, then we can talk about him being AS GOOD as Eli.

Are you judging him from his 2004-2007 seasons? No one was considering him elite. Eli turned a corner and has shown progression from 2008 to present. Now if you are going to hold that 25 int season against him then Favre,Brees, Peyton need to be taken out also because they go up and down with ints.

I'm judging him on his career including 2010 where he was at 85 and threw 25 ints on the season. I'm sorry you don't like it but my version of elite is what guys like Brady and Peyton put up which is consistent great player over the course of their career not picking a season here or there as you and others are doing. SB are won by teams, inidividual player is different just as it is with any other position.

if a RB who has been in the league 8 years with only 2 1,000 rushing totals in that time elite? We have a much different view of what elite is. As for last year it was the best season that Eli had and I give him credit for his play but that season along with a team accomplishment is not elite.

So let me ask this.

Do you want a bunch of great regular season statistics? Or do you want outstanding post season play and some trophys?

It is pretty humorous to me that if this argument were between Peyton and say, Troy Aikman, that everyone on the board would be pointing to the trophys and how Troy was freaking lights out in the playoffs

I don't judge QB or any player on team accomplishments alone. You think he is elite good for you I see elite different guys who year in and year out produce at a high level that is how it is. You pick and choose that is your view not mine. I don't think Eli is a bad QB but when your talking all time great elite QB he has had way too many ups and downs in his career for me to see him as elite at this stage. Jim Plunkett has 2 rings he is not elite while he had some qaulity season he has also had poor seasons

What's your opinion of Aikman?

6 time Pro bowler, very accurate QB in fact one of the most accurate during his playing time. And yes team accomplishments matter but not soley. The differance in views comes down to some put only the team accomplishment and forget about the overall individual play of the QB position

No popcorn needed, you have an opinion as do I. You make think yours is the only one but it is not and evidently there are people on both sides of this issue even former players in NY. Who is right and who is wrong is a matter of opinion and how one views the position

I never disagreed with that.

Aikman was on too good of a team to ever get a real grasp on how many stats he could have run up if he did not have Emmitt to hand the ball off too. One of the games that really showed Aikmans talent level was the SF playoff game where they had to make a comeback. That was one of the best games of his career from my standpoint and showed just how good (statistically)he could have been if called upon to throw the ball that much. He set the tone for that team with Irvin and Jimmy Johnson from a leadership perspective that very few could match though.

By the way, if anyone is trying to compare Eli to Aikman in that regard that would be one of the silliest comparisons ever!

We just do not see eye to eye on the topic. I think Eli is a very good QB I just don't put him into the elite catagory that some have. Does not mean I don't think he will not become elite after all he is still playing. I think post season matter I also think consistentcy matters and for all we know Eli could come back this season and put up a poor season it would not be the 1st time he has done it even coming off a SB.

As for Romo I never said he was elite, he has shown great consistentcy in his career never under 90 in terms of QB rating but post season does matter as well. Should Romo end his career with an all time raking of 90 or better with a championship then why would he not be elite?

What can I say, blame it on the lights!

But, that is exactly the point, he didn't connect, Eli make the throw. Call it clutch, call it choking, call it luck, or skill, it doesn't matter. Right now they are both excellent QB's. Eli is slightly above him only, ONLY because of his post-season record. Come on, admit it, it's a mathematical fact. My God, that kid showed more moxie than most in that San Fran game.

Jeez, he beat Ryan, Romo, RODGERS, San Fran (I don't think Alex Smith qualifies for just his name) and Brady, (ooops, twice).

And someone brought up total QB stats over the years, and that is a valid point. Eli doesn't have great stats over the years, but could it be that now he's developing? If I remember Bradshaw was terrible his first few years, as was Phil Simms.

And yes he had a terrible 2010 with turnovers, 26 ints.....but NO ONE talks about Brees 23 ints the same year...interesting.

Now Rodgers had a fantastic year. What, 40 tds, and 4 or 6 ints...now those are great stats....wait.......he went 15-1 and done...

I rest my case...

My friends as I tell my grandsons...its isn't how you start, but how you finish.

Eli is every bit as good as Romo is without the stats.

WOW!!!

now that said it all!!!

I'm sorry, hate me if you want, ban me from this forum, but Romo is not elite, and will not ever be an elite QB with only ONE post season win, period. He can't. You cannot call a QB elite with that post season record. Blame his D, or the stadium lights, it doesn't matter. Call him unlucky, doesn't matter. The record is the record. I feel bad for him, don't get me wrong, I like watching him play, one of the most mobile QB's out there. MY God, Eli runs like my sister, but he has what he has.

The regular season is only the stepping stones until the big games arrive in Jan. Regular season wins / stats are diddly squat if you lose in the post season. My God, in 2008 the jints were 10-1, then stupid shot himself and they finished 12-4, NFC east champs, first round bye, home field advantage. What happened? The eagles came to town and embarassed them. So their 12-4 was meaningless. They didn't finish.

The Mets were 14 yes FOURTEEN games in first place (few years ago) with 3 or so weeks away from the pennant race and they blew it. They didn't finish.
