I've always thought Witten was underrated nationally. He's been a better blocker than Gates or Gonzalez could ever dream of being. He doesn't have the touchdown numbers and that hurts his resume for many media types, but I wouldn't pick another TE in history over him if I were building a team.

They ranked him 6 spots over gates, so some agree :D

I've said this for years. IMO he's the greatest all around tight end of all time. Real football and fantasy fb are different, blocking matters too. People get too wrapped up in the receiving part of the job and forgethe they are also supposed to be a 6th lineman.

Witten is the greatest Cowboy TE. Great hands and always open. No argument. I want to give some respect to two of my favourite Cowboys...Jay Novacek and Billy Joe Dupree. Great Cowboys also.

Witten is the best TE to ever play. Not the best blocker, not the best receiver, but averaged out across the board. Add in that the best ability is availability and Witten is the consummate TE.

Based on regular season stats, absolutely. Due, mainly to circumstances outside of his control, has never really played in a meaningful playoff game.

Like the WR position, it's very difficult to compare TEs across eras. I think Witten is 1st Ballot HOF, I just don't definitively if we was better than a Mackey or a Dtika.

In the last 25 years or so, yeah I'd with Witten and Gonalez as the best.

Funny how you bring up Rivers and Gates.

At the end of it all, when people look back on things, they will be viewed as the better tandem.

I brought it up? There were only 2 guys on the same team in the list....I listed them...wait for ittttt....both.

The irony is, they both played the same positions.
