I wanted either Robinson or Heyward...now that neither has happened it is time to move on. The team has brought in to many CBs so I doubt they stand pat heading into the draft. Anyway here are the top two left at the position. Hall rated the highest according to PFF. Both project as slot guys so neither may be a fit here with Scandrick coming back.

Leon Hall, CB, Bengals. Age: 31.
i
Pacman Jones was better than Leon Hall in 2015, but Hall is rated higher here because he's a year younger and has been dominant for so much longer. Regardless, losing both would be crushing for Cincinnati.

Brandon Boykin, CB, Steelers. Age: 26.

The Steelers had one of the top nickel corners in the NFL at their disposal, yet they inexplicably didn't use him for most of the year. Overwhelmed defensive coordinator Keith Butler finally began utilize him in December, and it paid off big time, as Brandon Boykin performed extremely well.

Either there is a scheme difference involved with Boykin, or a price tag out of the budget range for Hall. There is money to still be considered and time to accomplish a change in many ways.

It's not all as easy as a slot fill for a fan's convenience.

I liked your discussion, by the way...

I'm guessing Boykin is viewed strictly as a slot CB and the Boys don't see a need to add him with Scandrick already getting the majority of snaps inside.

I really just hope they upgrade the secondary. I understand they can upgrade through the draft but CBs rarely find success in their first year unless they are a special talent. Maybe they are leaning Ramsey's way but so many have said he projects at S but many have said he will excel at CB.

Good discussion, gentlemen...this makes for great talk. Hey, there's still some very strong talent at the top of this draft. And some of it will be blue chippers for seven to eight seasons. I would love having Jones and Ramsey at safety for Dallas over those eight seasons. Wow! Now that would put an umbrella over the top, and what Dallas has in Wilcox and Church, a very strong safety group. Hoooooah.

Who plays SS in that scenario? I don't really view Jones as a heavy hitter and I have not read anything about Ramsey being able to slide into the SS role.

No doubt there. Jones would be the free safety and Ramsey the SS. But they would actually be a dual pair and could be played as such. Tremendous athleticism would then be on the field as a final protective line. In a passing league first, that would be a great addition.

As @CHQ_Jordan mentioned, Brandon Boykin's agency followed the #Cowboys on Twitter. DAL may have already moved on from Patrick Robinson.

If we are lucky enough to draft Ramsey, I don't feel it automatically means he plays safety with Jones.

The best CBs will start. It's nice to know that Carr, Scandrick, Clayborne, Jones, and Ramsey can all 5 play CB, along with the youngsters who got playing time last year. Jones and Ramsey won't be playing safety unless we have adequate play from others at corner, and it's nice to know that they can both play corner if needed.

Personally....I'd love to see Ramsey at 4 and DE at 34 or Bosa at 4 and DB at 34.
QB and RB/WR in rounds 3-4

It's not like there is a different position, when talking about secondary already. Corners and safeties both aid in run support and pass defense. To have great ability over the top, is an advantage, not a category of safety versus cornerback. With the umbrella opened, it is much easier to play man-on-man closer to the line of scrimmage. That is because of coverage skills, not misapplication.

I will have to do some more reading on Ramsey. Haven't read/heard to much about him being a hitter either.

He's an active player in the secondary. Not afraid to lay some leather also. Dynamics is what he brings...and he keeps his eyes on what is going on infront of him, and has a swivel head to see a ball in the air. You'll like what you find.

Yeah now that I start to visualize each team there really aren't to many "big" hitters left.

Church and Wilcox can play this role, in packages and closer roles to the line of scrimmage.

But stereotypes of non-hitters and business decisions are still off centered. Even today. Football is a contact sport, and with rules on where one can hit, technique for hitting will still be focused upon.
