You think Rodgers is too high? Nah. If you're talking pure QB play he's the best I've ever seen. Brady and Montana are higher for the Super Bowls of course but Rodgers was a better thrower than both IMO.
Montana benefitted from the system he was in. I wonder if he would have been as successful in Landry”s system if they did not pass on him in the draft.
I think he would have had success, but to what degree.
plus he had arguably the best WR ever in Rice.

I think there is a "recent history bias" in the ratings as many of the pre-pass happy offense era QB's are pushed a bit lower in the list

It is purely subjective, but I would have moved several in the 10-20 range a bit higher.
Yeah, most of these lists need to be presented as “post 1980 QB rankings.”

Both Sammy Baugh and Johnny Unitas both reigned for a time as “the greatest QB who ever lived”. But now Drew Brees is better because he played in a wacky stat era despite never even once being NFL MVP?

Have to consider how they dominated their era as the main comparison factor.

He didn't have Jerry Rice for the first two Super Bowls. Montana is the best QB of all time not named Tom Brady.

Rodgers will be an interesting one. Neither of his last two MVPs felt "earned", IMO. At his peak, he was as wild as any quarterback I've ever seen, but he spent most of his career seemingly playing a notch below that. I wouldn't put him in the top 5.

PFM is an easy top 3 pick any way you want to look at it. What gets me is that, if not for his neck, he could have been even better. His game hit a new level around 2008, right as the NFL was opening up into the pinball scoring era, and his health basically failed him a couple years afterwards.

If Manning got a couple more seasons in the 2010s, when Brees, Brady, and Rodgers were all putting up video game numbers, I think he smokes all three. He did when healthy.

This is why lists mean nothing. Where is that dufus that made the thread about how every list that has Dak in the top ten proves that hes elite? LOL

Steve Young over Drew Brees and Favre. Brees would have been in on a stretcher and retired early in the 90s. As good as Favre was in the mid to late 90s, he really flamed out and had a lot of bad seasons.

Also Rivers being the top 25 is a freakin' joke.

Here’s one of the craziest stats you’ll ever see:

Between 1991-1998, the nfl was full of offensive player of the year winners, MVPs and hall of famers: Brett Favre, Warren Moon, Joe Montana, Jim Kelly, John Elway, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, Steve Mcnair, Peyton Manning, Randall Cunningham, Rich Gannon.

And in that time Steve Young was first or second team all-pro 7 of 8 years. Now THATS something that holds up in a rankings list.

I don't think talent in of itself should matter when discussing top QB's of all time.

For instance, Marino was more talented than Montana. Would anyone dream of suggesting Marino was the better QB? Rodgers is more talented than Brady. Maybe even Manning. I am certainly not putting Rodgers ahead of either.

Most pundits are always going to put SB appeareances and wins above all else. Which is why Brady will be the GOAT until someone surpasses him in SB wins. I don't believe that is necessarily the way it should be. Unfortunately...it is.

Mahomes will go down as the best ever all said and done IMO. His ability to throw from every arm angle off any platform is amazing. He makes throws no one else should even try. Eras are certainly different but he’d dominate any era.
