I say foreigners have no taste. Not a bad list but to think someone would be crazy about Wyoming over New York, LA or San Fransisco sounds crazy.

I imagine this is about nature, not cities even though it doesn't say that.

Cool list. Thor's Well...that looks so awesome and i drove right by it years ago. Never heard of it before.

I lived in Savannah and I've visited Sequoia, Carlsbad, Yosemite, Smokey Mtns, and Yellowstone as an adult; Niagara and Watkins Glen as a kid. I haven't been to Maroon Bells Snowmass specifically but I've been around there. Not sure what's special about that specific area.

Puget Sound would be on my list. If I were traveling from overseas, kayaking/whale watching in the sound would be higher than almost all of those other locations.

I have only been to a fraction of that list, and it is just the tip of the iceberg for the beauty you can find in this country.

lol.. LA? Why go there?

I mean, I have, but it doesn't make a list of spots I would say anyone must visit.

Shamefully never been to any of these places. Really cool places/pics and appreciate the insight though. Would definitely like to add some to the bucket list type thing. Like Big Dog said, a little ashamed I didn't know the majority of these places even existed.

I've only been to 3 or 4 places on the list.
Most of those places are insanely out of the way.

I'd love to see a few more of those places for sure but planning a trip to go would be reallllly tough.

for a recent retiree with a new RV you could put together a once in a lifetime travel log with about 7-10 of these places all hit on a 3 week road trip.

Yea, not easy to get to. I saw them while on road trips just from driving. While I was in Oregon for my sisters wedding, I googled places to see while there and Thor's Well popped up and HAD to see it. It wasn't as spectacular as the above picture because it was a calm day and evidently not the season.

6 or 7 for me. I need to see some of those paces. Definitely will add many of them. Some I have heard of, some are new to me.

America the Beautiful! I drove from the Eastern part of the US to the West Coast twice. Everyone needs to make time to do this once or twice (or more) in their life. So much to see. Take 4 weeks and see as much as you can.

Yea, if you drop into 90 mins range those places are all must see IMHO.
All that said, I'd likely never really plan a vacation to go to one, not enough other things to do.

Then again I consider the French Quarter and old Yankee stadium far more iconic American destinations than anything on the list. (Boston Garden, Madison Square Garden, Disney World, Carnegie Hall, Busch Gardens, Vegas, Grand Canyon)
And those types of places offer a full itinerary.
I work for a company that is international and the folks who visit want to talk about those places not the aforementioned list.
Those places on the list probably rank higher once there but far less well known.

But if I had just finished reading Walden, I could see myself doing a commune with nature trip and loving that list.

I was shocked at how many of those places I have never heard of.

same here.....and not sure if I should be more embarrassed of how many of these places I never heard of or how off the list is I built in my mind before opening the link. Thought I've seen a good portion of our country but apparently not!!

I've been to 4 of them:

Watkins Glen
Niagara Falls
Savannah
Smoky Mountains

They are places that are nice to go see for about an hour, but they lose their appeal after that because all you can really do is look at it and you need something to do.

Niagara Falls in magnificent, but how long are you going to look at the Falls for? Thankfully, the Canadian side is a bit of fun as there are fun things to do besides the Falls over there.

All of those places suck, so there's that.

So I emailed this list to my wife and put "vacation ideas" as the title. Last night I found out our family vacation for the next few years looks lined up. So much for the "where do you think we should go on vacation this year" discussions I always get dragged into each spring. :)
