Ali/Frazier I- Just a GREAT fight. Ali took the fight too soon after his come back. The determination of these two guys in this fight was beyond words.

Leonard/Hearns I- I loved the fact that the boxer became the puncher and vice versa. Also the famous line by Dundee in Leonard's corner "You're blowin it son" was a great commentary.

Hagler/Hearns- For the sheer fury.

Ali/Foreman- Rope a Dope. Great stuff. I was going to choose Clay/Liston I because of the sheer upset value...but I think this fight was even more of an upset. Liston was old. Clay exposed him. Foreman on the other hand was a young, wrecking machine. Ali took him apart mentally, then phyically.

Ali/Frazier III- Two aging fighters on the downside, suck it up and put on a fight for the ages. Ali said that it was as close as he's ever been to dying.

Honoroable mentions to...Foreman/Lyle....Louis/Schmeling...Leonard/Hagler...Foreman/Frazier I...Holmes/Norton...Louis/Conn...Tyson/Douglas...

So, what are your choices???

Ah yes....a barnburner that was.

And let's not forget, Ali/Young. Talk about watching paint dry!

I was at the Hagler Leonard fight. I was a Hagler fan and thought he'd tear Leonard up. Leonard fought as good a tactical fight as I've ever seen.

I love the replays of Ali vs. Foreman. Ali was so amazing.

Boxing is nothing like it used to be.

From watching the replays, I have to say Ali/Foreman as well.

Can you imagine having to dodge those haymakers from Foreman? Ali did and wore the monster out.

Well, the amazing thing is...he didn't dodge them....he absorbed them.

Funny interview with Foreman...he said he hit Ali with a shot that was so hard it was "dehumanizing"...Ali took the punch...looked at him and said "Is that it? Is that the best you've got"...and Foreman said "I thought to myself, 'Yeah, that's about it"

I agree. Boxing is a shell of what it used to be.

Regarding Leonard Hagler...I thought Leonard won that one fair and square. Heck, being gone that long...stepping up in weight..Hagler should have lost the decision simply because the fight went that long.

I LOVED hearing Leonard's corner, after many Hagler swings and misses, yelling "Hey Marvin, where'd he go?"

Ali. Hands down. Best ever. Forget the Ali that people saw later on. Look at him vs Liston in the first fight. There are welterweights that don't have that speed. And ....what none of us knew at that time was that he could take a punch probably better, or as good as, any heavyweight in history.

Totally agree with you that Ali is the best ever. Tactically the smartest man to ever step in the ring. He could neutralize any opponent's strength.

I loved the guys around the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions during that era.

Leonard
Hearns
Hagler
Palomino
Arguello
Duran
Chavez

and so many more I am probably forgetting.

It was a glorius era of boxing that we'll never get to enjoy again. Fighters of their ilk simply aren't in the game any more.

It's a shame.

IMO all of them owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ali. He made the sport what it was.

He really was "The Greatest."

Foreman/Lyle was a circus act. Very entertaining.
Hagler Mugabi...I was expecting alot more from Mugabi. He froze in that fight.
And yep, Holmes Norton was a great fight.

Ali's the most overrated boxer, maybe even athlete, in history. I don't even have him in my 10 best boxers of all time.

OK then, give me your opinion of Ali's best performance ever. Taking the title from a washed-up Liston?

If Ali wasn't the greatest self-promoter in history and Cosell never fell in love he'd be remembered as what he was -- one of the better heavyweights but not really that special.
