From what I see, ( since his 2023 cap hit is $49M and his dead cap is 89M) the contract was intentionally set up for restructuring in 2023. Think about it, the dead cap amount means he's not going anywhere but we have got to get the 2023 cap hit down before next season.

How much more can they actually restructure it though? Only two years left after this season, and they already have $20+MM tied up in the voidable year. Not sure how much more they can realistically kick down the road or if its possible to get out of that voided money somehow?

Seems to me that an extension is a lot more likely, but I will also admit I am far from a cap guru.

Dak Prescott will never be worth his contract regardless of how deals are structured.

So what do you propose? Should we jettison him right now because he is totally useless as a QB and therefore not worthy to be in this league never mind the Cowboys?

Neither am I but the facts are the $49M cap hit next is way too high and they can't release him at $89M dead cap. These are facts.....

No need.
Flip 28M to SB and his cap hit falls by 21M.
Done and dusted.
Say more about this....is it really that simple? I've always heard that nothing charged to the cap ever goes away you just move it around, but I also head that this was the hack the Rams have used too. A larger market team with cash on hand can pay money upfront as a signing bonus. It sort of makes sense but does this really erase the cap hit altogether?

If so it really changes my perspective on so many things. I care about the cap hit and cap management but could care less about how much money Jerry needs to pony up. Honestly it would shock me if Jerry isn't more aggressive with free agency if this move is really that simple
