Most excited:
-New coaching staff/philosophies (No pets, no bs)
-Incredible talent at the RB and WR position, if this offense stutters for 3 quarters against every good team then we all know without saying who needs to be replaced
-1 year closer to a new face at the QB position
Most concerned:
-Daks business decisions on the field (less instinctive runs, more holding onto the ball instead of rifling it to the breaking receiver, etc.)
=Linebacker group
-Will the cornerbacks improve upon last season?
-Safeties (Would not be surprised to see a bunch of "I actually miss Jeff Heath" threads)
-Kicker (Just tossed away our most accurate kicker for a more expensive guy who has struggled recently, makes zero sense). Extra point - Anyone care to explain why we cut Dan Bailey again?
- Dan Bailey never seemed to recover from a lower body injury and continued struggling as a resort, Cowboys probably thought
he would never fully recovered and decided to cut him, maybe a great deal because he was among the highest paid FG kickers too
at the time. At the time it was a stunning shock to hear he was cut.
- Exit Bailey.Cowboys record book FG kicker ..
Enter Brett Mauer. Tremendous leg power, but erratic FG accuracy and definitely not a clutch kicker.
- I commend the new coaches on the LB moves, old regime likely thought Jaylon's lack of agility would be better hidden
at middle LB and he won't have to cover quite as much ground in a more limited area and less coverage responsibilities.
He can be explosive when he's gathered straight line forward momentum but it's an adventure if he has to stop, change directions
and reverse in coverage. He no doubt will be maxed in vs run/blitz pressure while coaches find ways to lessen his read keys and
best hide his coverage responsibilities.
- i had thought about LVE in the middle when i saw games where he got his hands on deflected middle passes. He has a knack for
getting in position in passing lanes, has INT hands and instincts, runs smoothly and extremely well for one his size, (almost 260 lbs)
and with his height (6'5) and enormous octopus like long arms, he will be difficult to throw over in the middle, he's gonna get INT picks.
If that neck mends and never becomes a problem, - and we provide interior big body plugs to protect him - he will have
Luke Kuehly/Brian Urlacher like impact in the middle for us.
- If we best preserve Sean Lee, and lessen his snap reps, use his great game experience and anticipation in schemes where
he can drop in zones rather than have to man cover in great lengths.Durability, age, declining range will always be a challenge
Could easily be his final year. ..or year and a half.
Could we see LVE and LEE in the nickel ..while Jaylon is blitzing up front in some nickel packages ?
