I think that the whole "drafting a tackle" thing will largely depend on Rob Pettiti. Bill is going to give him every chance to succeed at this level.

I think it's safe to say that Rob wasn't ready this season for some of the things that he faced. That's understandable. The question is will he be ready next season? Will he ever be ready?

I think that one of these days (and maybe soon) he's going to be good RT. With that in mind, I think Bill will try to find more of a bandaid RT who can play well for a year or two until Rob takes over.
I think Bill is not unlike the majority of us here in that he realizes Petitti is potentially a good backup but is a liability as the starter for RT.

Bill knows that the RT position gave us fits this season and by being unprepared for the loss of Adams, we suffered severly. I fully expect him to adress the depth on the O-Line aggressively this offseason.

Dallas hasn't selected an Offensive Lineman in the 1st round since 1981. I think it's about time we did. I'm sick and tired of these projects and backups and values and bandaids and Tuckerses and Vollerses. It's no mystery why our O-Line has sucked for as long as I can recall.

I think you also have to factor in Columbo but I agree with you. I am not as down on Pettiti as many are. I expect substantial improvement in Robs physical strength, stamina and over all understanding of the position relative to the NFL. I guess I just have faith in this kid. Having said that, I would not be surprised to see us take an OL in the second round or, if there's a guy we really like that falls to us.

There's a kid at UNM that plays Center who I believe could translate to RT in the NFL. Has really good feet and excellent size. Ryan Cook could be a guy who we drafted a bit later. Can play any of the three positions on the OL though he's 6'7 which is a bit tall for Center and Guard in the NFL.
