Don't get me wrong, I like the choices we made in the draft.

Bennett- He looks like he can be a really good player.

Choice- Great pickup.

Scadrick- Could be a big time sleeper pick.

It's just the fact that if you take Ayodele out of the equation (since he was likely out anyway) we traded a young 2nd round backup TE for a 4th rounder and then used our second round pick to draft another backup TE. It was just.... weird. That's the only way I can describe it. However like I said, I'm just going to believe that the Coaches and head office know better than I do and it will work out for the best.

how can anyone here not like this deal?

Ayodele was gonna get cut...Fasano never made an impact whatsoever, was dinged up alot and reportedly didnt pick up Garrett's passing game well...he was also mediocre at best as a blocker, hence less and less playing time as the yr wore on...so we got a 4th rd pick (1st pick of that rd at that) for a career backup at best and one guy destined for the waiver wire, who made absolutely ZERO impact on our defense in two years here

and if Garrett thinks Bennett is an upgrade over Fasano and fits the scheme better, so be it

seriously folks...some of you will cry about anything

But the end result was Choice and Scandrick. They got two players back in the end.

two guys that werent very good here...one of whom was a goner, the other who might have been demoted to 3rd string

it was a good move

and by the way, is the Sporting News so desperate for help now that they have to recruit The Turd master to help them?

I canceled TSN years ago (mid 90's) and have never gave it a 2nd hhought...and they just keep getting worse and worse

That's exactly it. They clearly believe that Bennett is the vastly superior player. I think we will all support this decision after we see the difference between Thomas and Bennett vs Ayodele and Fasano.

Overall, think of it a different way. Ayodele was going to be cut when we added Thomas. Bennett was a player they targeted as a potential superstar, thus willing to cut their losses with Fasano- who wasn't a good pick. We were looking to get rid of both, and we got something rather than nothing for it.

Bennett wasn't in the picture when Fasano was traded though. The cards fell that way on draft day, but I'm pretty sure we did not have Bennett in mind when we traded away Fasano

Jerry made one of offseason's worst moves

At least that's what Mike Florio thinks, ranking the draft weekend deal with the Dolphins third on a list of the 10 worst offseason moves.
Because news of the trade between the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins came on the eve of the draft, it made the deal a bit less noticeable -- but no less remarkable. The Cowboys sent linebacker Akin Ayodele and tight end Anthony Fasano to the Dolphins for a fourth-round draft pick. Total. Seriously.

Ayodele signed with the Cowboys as a free agent in 2006, and Fasano was a second-round pick that same year. Although Ayodele would have been bumped to the bench by free-agent pickup Zach Thomas, it's highly risky, at best, for Dallas to count on the veteran linebacker with the history of head trauma to stay on the field. Meanwhile, after dealing away Fasano, the Cowboys had to burn a second-round pick on a new tight end (Texas A&M's Martellus Bennett) to work behind Jason Witten.
I'm going to stick up for this trade, because it brought another quote machine to the Cowboys' locker room.

Jerry explained to us that the deal was basically Fasano for a fourth-rounder when the Dolphins asked about Ayodele at the last minute. Jerry, figuring Ayodele would be cut anyway and deserved a shot to start elsewhere, donated the LB to the Dolphins' cause.

Should Jerry have asked old pal Bill Parcells to fork over a late-round pick for Ayodele? Probably.

But, man, is Martellus Bennett gonna fill up some notebooks or what?!

it may not have been Bennett in particular, but they were looking to upgrade the #2 TE spot by trading Fasano

although it was reported that Jerry was pretty excited about going and getting Bennett, even wanted to trade up to do it

Yeah, like I said, I loved our draft. The players we got out of that 4th rounder were excellent choices(heehee).

in essence we traded akin (soon to be a backup) and fasano (a bust) straight up for pacman.. i'll take that deal anyday.

he wasnt? they brought him in for a predraft visit...USC TE Fred Davis too as I recall reading...both those guys were universally regarded as 2nd rd picks, so the Cowboys must have been thinking of doing somehting with Fasano for quite some time

Read somewhere in here that the Boys save 4.5 Mil of the cap next year by trading them.. If they were released then the cap hit would of been greater.

more like ignorant observers, they don't know that we want to have 2-TEs incorporated alot into our offense
I've heard that before. We had two TEs. We dealt one away for half a fourth, and spent a second on another. It may turn out for the best, but right now it looks dumb.

It's funny, Al Johnson and Julius Jones were second rounders who left and we got NOTHING for them. But you trade another second rounder who's been less productive than those two and actually get something of value, and it's as if you got robbed.

But then we knew this was coming. Parcells = Genius. Jerry = Rube.
Actually, we got 3+ years of starting contribution out of these guys before they left via FA. That's a lot more than we ever got or were ever going to get out of FasaNO.

In the end, what we got in return for Fasano was a gift. The point is, selecting him in the 2nd round was a completely worthless pick and most of us here knew it at the time. I don't remember too many people being very happy with that selection when it occurred and rightfully so..

The thing is, if that's really the player we wanted, I'm thinking we would've traded up in the 2nd so as not to risk losing him. I could be wrong...I'm not well versed on the needs of the teams ahead of us but I do believe that we would've taken a WR if one of the few good ones were still available late in the 2nd round.

So yes, we may have had Bennett on our radar, but we did nothing to ensure that we would acquire him. He fell to us, but I don't really see that linking up as a concrete reason for giving Fasano away for so cheap.

I don't see how trying to improve a facet of your team that you want to incorporate more being dumb

just because Fasano cost us a 2nd round pick does not mean he was any good.....i said it then and i will say it now....what make Fasano any better than Curtis? And Akin does not make plays....which is not a good thing when he has Burnett a 2nd round pick....and Carpenter a 1st round pick waiting in the wings....could either of those 2 do any worse?
