The thing is, if that's really the player we wanted, I'm thinking we would've traded up in the 2nd so as not to risk losing him. I could be wrong...I'm not well versed on the needs of the teams ahead of us but I do believe that we would've taken a WR if one of the few good ones were still available late in the 2nd round.

So yes, we may have had Bennett on our radar, but we did nothing to ensure that we would acquire him. He fell to us, but I don't really see that linking up as a concrete reason for giving Fasano away for so cheap.

Ayodele was gonna get cut...Fasano never made an impact whatsoever, was dinged up alot and reportedly didnt pick up Garrett's passing game well...he was also mediocre at best as a blocker, hence less and less playing time as the yr wore on...so we got a 4th rd pick (1st pick of that rd at that) for a career backup at best and one guy destined for the waiver wire, who made absolutely ZERO impact on our defense in two years here

and if Garrett thinks Bennett is an upgrade over Fasano and fits the scheme better, so be it

Free agent additions and subtractions are not evaluated in the same manner as trades. The fact is we let a starter and a second round TE go in exchange for a 4th rounder, THEN spent a second rounder on a TE. No matter what the reasoning, you can definitely see how impartial observers would say that entire scenario doesn't make sense. It's not like it was do or die with Ayodele and Fasano. We didn't need to move them. But we did, apparently to go ina different direction.

The only thing wrong with the premise of the article is that he thinks we are putting all our eggs in the Thomas basket. Like we don't have 18 first and second round picks at LB.

It really is no different than letting Julius (a starter ) walk and drafting Jones in the 1st and Choice in the 4th. The difference is that we got something for him.

We basically traded the cost of Ayodele for the cost of Thomas.

Jones wanted to trade up for Hardy, then said he wanted to trade up for Bennett and didnt when nobody else would support the move

and as fyi, I dont post anything that is "just made up"

I think many of us have learned to take Sporting News material with a grain of salt.

It sounds like Dallas just wasn't very high on Fasano anymore, so they got what they could. There wasn't much room for Ayodele, and I believe he would have been cut anyway.

Lastly, Dallas sure seems impresses with Bennett and very happy to grab him where they did.

I'm not sure this was a great transaction; however, I don't believe we "got fleeced".

I can see trading Ayodele, Thomas is coming in and has Bobby Carpenter ( a 1st round pick) behind him, and they were willing to let Ayodele go.... I got that part.

What I really don't get is trading away a 2nd round backup TE, so you could draft another 2nd round backup TE.... Bennett seems like a good player, but still it doesn't make much sense to me at the moment. Maybe when the season gets under way I'll see the light, but right now I agree, it was just a weird move.

This topic is getting very old you do know that Bennett, was the top rated TE, in this year's draft right.

I do think Fasano, will be a good starting TE, in this league and we all know Parcells' fingerprints was all over the Fasano pick in 2005 for some reason though he didn't work out like the Cowboys envisioned.

But if you, and others still believe that Bennett, will be just another backup TE, that will be used sparingly in the offense this year then you're sadly mistaken.

I watched him at Texas A&M, and he didn't dropped many passes thrown his way and he has deceptive speed to be 6'6", and he knows how to use his body in the redzone to box out safeties, dbs, and lbs to catch the ball and he's a very good blocker.

Martellus, to me is an upgrade over Fasano, and if it was Bennett, in the playoff game against the Giants when Romo, threw a ball to Fasano, that he dropped for an apparent TD, trust me Bennett, wouldn't have dropped that TD.

It wasn't no mistake on Dallas' part to draft Bennett, he wasn't drafted just to be a part-time player and if Witten, was to go down to injury do you have that much confidence in Curtis, to be the starter.

The thing is, Fasano was about to lose his #2 job to Tony Curtis. And has been nothing short of a huge disappointment. Just look at how often he was on the field (almost 50% of the snaps) and how much he did. We remember him more for the dropped passes than anything good he did on the field.

The funny thing is some people were/are disappointed that the Cowboys, traded Fasano.

I believe that Parcells, contacted the Cowboys about Fasano, we all know it was his draft pick and he maybe even inquired about Ayodele so they traded them for a 4th that they traded to the Titans, for PacMan.

I for one have no problem in what they did.

Wanting to and actually doing something to get him are two completely different things. Like I said, we would've taken a WR ahead of Bennett, had a descent one been available. I'm sure Jerry "wants" dozens of players. Bennett fell to us...there was nothing done to guarantee it.

Just because you've delusionally convinced yourself the Fasano trade is ok doesn't make people who question it "crybabies" or whatever you were whining about earlier. The truth is, this team hasn't won a playoff game in a decade, so there have been LOTS of errant player personnel decisions that directly relate to Jerry. I think it's quite within reason to at least QUESTION Jerry, especially when most people have had to force themselves into believing this Fasano thing is fine and will work out. To say there was a concrete plan in place to acquire Bennett is quite ridiculous. I'm all for hoping it works out and that Zach Thomas stays healthy and everything else, but a few more cards need to fall into place now that weren't an issue before the seemingly unnecessary trade.
