Top Ten Mock - Updated 3/1

I think many people have problems with going after guys that aren't household names. Lets face it. Watt isn't gunna wow any of us; and no he is not the wonderboy from USC (Tyron Smith), but I just think the dude can play football.

I want football players on this club. Its the football players with blue collar mentalities that do wonders in the locker room; spreading their hard work along to their teammates and leading by example. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this guy ends up a Patriot. If not, I would love this dude to be wearing that :starspin

If the Cowboys drafted J.J. Watt and left Tyron Smith on the board, I would be stunned and disgusted. When the season starts, and that offensive line looks every bit the average age of 33 (especially in November and December), they may look back once again and wonder "what happened". Then, they can listen to all the NFL analysts talk about drafting an OT next year, high. Smith will not be in that draft, but the Cowboys may be picking in the top 10 again.

I like Marcell Dareus on the DL if someone made me go that direction, but I don't think he will be there at 9. He shouldn't be, but you really can't rule it out. I do like Dareus much better than Fairley.

Guess at Dallas' Real Short List:

1. Patrick Peterson (Make sure everyone knows...LOL)
2. Marcell Dareus
3. Tryon Smith

I think that will be their highest rated CB, DL, and CB.

I think that their highest rated OT should trump any other DL or CB at 9.

Why? RB is an obsolete position for winning in the NFL. As a RB to play for Jason Garrett you pretty much have to be able to pass block and provide adequate running ability. We saw that with Marion Barber getting plenty of snaps despite clearly not having much left in the tank running-wise.

Don't know about that. The league may be pass happy but I don't think you'll find many teams who would call the RB position "obsolete".

I think that Peterson will be gone by 9 in any case, and I don't see the Cowboys trading up.

I think it's easier to get a quality DL in the 2nd round than a starting OT. I'm leaning your way and we take T Smith.

I don't think Colombo has much left in the tank, and I don't see us making a real push for the playoffs without having an adequate replacement.

We can still get a quality DL and Safety in rounds 2 and 3, imo.

Blue collar?

Tyron Smith isnt a hard worker?

^ain't saying hes not. I just think JJ Watt is the definition of a blue collar type player.

I think if the draft went down that way, some team would pay a premium to move in front of Washington to nab Julio Jones.

nahh I think the foreskins would just grab em themselves. I think Julio can be great but he can't beat press coverage and has to work on that. Put jenkins in his face and maybe we can win half the battle before the snap against the Commanders

I really think the Patriots are going to move up in this draft and dangle #17, #28 and maybe a third rounder to crash the top ten. I didn't forecast any trades, but that's one I would definitely consider.

I don't have anything against Ingram, but I think Felix/Choice can handle the load provided we actually block for them.

I hope so cuz I take that trade every day and 2x on Sunday.
I tend to doubt it will happen but that would be a coup to get two #1s for the 9 pick. We might have to give up a late round pick to even it out but still would be coup. I could see NE trading up but not giving up both #1s.

Anyway...if the Pats offer their 2 #1s to us and we take it.....
I draft Brandon Harris at 17 and trade back again from #28 since we pick again at #40 already. I'd then veer along the lines of the draft in my sig below....

Let's see. What do these players have in common?

Brandon Jackson
Pierre Thomas
Willie Parker
Brandon Jacobs
Dominic Rhodes
Kevin Faulk

If you answered that they all were the starting RB's on Superbowl winning teams you are correct. Let's just face it folks, you don't need an elite or great running back anymore to win a Superbowl.
Brandon Jackson? You mean James Starks.

Anyway...your point was well made.

I think all teams would love to have an elite back but it is not mandatory anymore. Of course, not all of those teams had elite LT's or elite DEs either though.

But most did have elite or semi-elite QBs.

Interesting.

I like Watt a lot but I would trade down in that situation.

Who would trade up? At that point Watt is the best player on the board. You're not going to get good value in a trade down.

Agree.
I almost included that statement until I noticed Eli in the group. :laugh2:
I bet that's why you added the "semi" to your elite comment.

I'd strongly consider Smith over either of them.

I think he'll be a better OT than either of those guys will be at CB or DE/DT, and the OL is the worst unit on the team IMO. Pairing Smith with Free gives us bookend offensive tackles for years to come and I'm guessing Smith would be a massive improvement over Colombo from day one. Colombo was the worst player on the team last yr IMO. And thats saying something when you have Alan Ball out there.

Except for the case where Smith is nothing but a "potential" guy who looks great standing around in his underwear but doesn't stay healthy and isn't physical, and would rather spend money than get ready to play, like most USC players.

Yuck. Talk about having all the best guys go before our pick.

What are you basing this off of?

Absolutely nothing, but when you're ignorant and are fueled by bias hate for a player or school, these sort of things just roll off your tongue with ease.

PLEASE let this happen - give me picks 17, 28 and 40 any day over #9.

Yes, we have all suffered through JJ's history of trying to be cute on draft day, but to me, this would be a draft day coup
