With all the additions Dallas has made on defense, the Cowboys now have a defensive core with the ability to be very good if not dominating... We all know how the paper roster looks, but translating that to the field is another step altogether.

I believe now with the youth and versatility on the defensive line, and now the depth at LB, coupled with the already solid Cowboy defensive secondary, dominating is the word that could be used to describe the Dallas defense for a week or five next season.

How many weeks do you guys/gals think Dallas holds a top 3 spot in total defensive ranking.

Commanders d will be rank higher, better coaching and scheme..players skill level overall its close...coaching and scheme will be the difference..you didnt ask for it,but i gave it anyway!!!!

 Isn't that You're Momma calling you?

This is a silly poll.
You should change it to the following and you may get more responses:

1. Top 3 Defense
2. Top 5
3. Top 10
4. Top 15
5. Bottom Half

It's pretty clear that:
Cowboys front 7 > Commanders front 7
Cowboys secondary > Commanders secondary.

If I were you I'd be hoping that "better coaching and scheme" takes you a long way.

We wont have a top 3 defense all year. Top 10, probably, but this group is too inexperianced on the whole to be elite just yet.

I think it is pretty obvious that it has in the past, and most likely will again this year...

We actually were close to a top defense last year thru the first half of the season. After the bye, and injuries to Dat & Singleton, we slowly sank to the 11th best defense -- and that's with Davis at FS, Fujita at OLB & Shanle/Fowler handling Dat's position. The return of Singleton along with addition of Carpenter at OLB, a bigger ILB in Ayodele replacing Dat, and maybe an upgrade at FS, combined with improved physical development of last year's rookies and a 2nd year in the 3-4 should considerably improve our defensive performance I would hope we would be ranked among the 5 defensive for the whole year--if not better. But frankly, I'd expect our defense to really hit its stride in 07.

Well, I guess I agree. We have historically spanked you guys after all. Then again, that had as much to do with better players as well as better coaching.

theogt, yes your team was spanking us,but the key word is (was)..when you sweep a team that had been spanking your a.. ,i think it shows signs of change..change is gonna come!!!

we finished one spot belowe Washington last year, with less talent and a new scheme, this year we will finish in front of wash

You hope at least. Someone else posted that to match us the Commanders would have to sweep us every year until 2011. Ha. Good luck hoping for change.

it has already started to come with the return of gibbs. We can actually look forward to the dallas game again without the anticipation of a loss

Ok, i actually agree with the skins fan (gag) on this one. I think talent-wise we are vastly superior on defense this year and should've been better last year too but G Williams' defensive scheme and coaching was so vastly superior that it made the difference. The skins lost some good players to injury last year and they had some scrubs step in and the d didn't really miss a beat. I was esp surprised how well they were able to stop the run without commiting 8 guys to the box. That made the difference. They stuffed our run with like 4-6 guys near the LoS. Hard to pass when there are 7 or 6 guys in the secondary no matter who they are.
They also did it without really getting a lot of pressure on the QB. I don't remember them having many sacks but teams still couldn't score on them.
Salvelea is probably the most underrated DL in the league. He was a beast last year.
Ok now I have to go wash my mouth out with soap.

GHST187,..well said.i couldnt have said it better..homer or not,you call it like it is...i like that..

Not after our 2 games of offense against your defense, you will drop in the rankings.
