Getting under way....

Can Tiger win his first major of the year despite the knee injury and not having played a competitive round in some time?

If anyone can, its Tiger....

Check out this pairing:
11:06 a.m. - 4:36 p.m. Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods

Yowza. What I'd give to be the 4th guy in the pairing.....

That is a great 3some to follow. As always I'll be pulling for lefty but would not be suprised by anything Tiger does the man is the best to play the game

Combine the injury and the shot making and that was the greatest round of golf i've seen, maybe ever.

Agree completely, I thought he might have been done at the half way stage because of that injury. Instead, Tiger keeps playing and grinds out two eagles and a birdie, I have no idea how the man does it. Hopefully he can see it out to complete and absolutely amazing return.

Meh. I'm not buying it.

That crap on the 18th yesterday was scripted. I' convinced. It looked fake as hell.

Tiger is one hell of a golfer, likely the best anyone of us will ever see, but I'm not buying this whole injury thing. I've played the damn game on bad knees and ankles, and it bothered me very little. A bad back on the other hand...

^He just had surgery on his knee, it's not like he just has a little sore leg....he's playing with a knee that was recently operated on. Coming back to the US open for the first tournament after surgery and being in the lead is pretty special.

There's a hell of a lot of people that should read up on Ben Hogan and find out what a comeback really is.

Yeah, except the difference is Tiger puts a LOT of torque on his left knee when he swings.

I bet with your swing speed, you could play with a bum knee.

You'd bet wrong. I'd be willing to bet my swing speed is every bit as fast as Tigers....and I know exactly how outlandish that seems to say on the internet, but its true. I still don't think I'd have that hard a time playing on a bum knee...considering I have two of them...located right above my two bum ankles. I play at least once a week without crying about it too.

I just can't keep my woods straight.

Have you ever gotten your swing speed check?

Just curious.

I know for an average golfer, I have a good swing speed. But it aint Tiger's swing speed.

^Same with me, I play a few rounds a week and have a good swing...it ain't even close to the speed of Tigers and the torque on his leg when he swings is more than anybody else I have seen.

I just came back from watching these guys live on friday at TP, and you are not even close to what these guys play, not to mention Tiger is way above them. The shots these guys make are unbelieveable and they better get them on the fairway, I know now why Tiger said a 10 hcp would be lucky to break 100, add the pressure of it being your livelyhood and millions watching and to do it for 4 days... Unreal...

ESPN.com to watch it live.

Tiger on the 1st hole for the tournament: 3 Double Bogeys and a Bogey.

Tiger on the green in 2, putting for birdie. Rocco in the greenside bunker.

Tiger pars the first hole; Rocco bogeys it. Rocco's bogey was unfortunate. Bad read.

Tiger and Rocco par the 2nd.

Tiger in trouble on 3rd; he has a fried egg on the bank of a bunker. Rocco hits his 2 ft from the cup.

Rocco has himself a new fan. If Tiger ends up losing, I am glad its to a guy like Rocco...

Edit: Rocco birdies; drops back to E. Tiger bogeys, falls to +1.

Rocco's cheers are equal to Tiger's....that's awesome.

Through 5, both Tiger and Rocco +1.

When most get paired with Tiger, you can see them tense up. Rocco is still himself. Still the same mannerisms/reactions/shot-making...

As long as that continues, Rocco will give himself a shot.

Gotta love it...

Tiger spanks one down the middle of the fairway, over 300. Rocco smaks his down the fairway too (obviously well short of Tiger's), Tiger turns to him, compliments his shot "Nice shot Rocco."

'Thank you' - Rocco.

This is an awesome pairing to watch.

Tiger is my favorite golfer; but Rocco seems like a class act....kind of torn here.

I really like Rocco, he's been fun and entertaining all week. It's unusual to see a guy interact with the crowd so much and I love it. I still want Tiger to win of course, but I wouldn't be as annoyed as usual if he lost to Rocco.

Eeeew.

Tiger; 185 out. 8 Iron? Srsly? Puts it 5-8' uphill putt for birdie. Rocco has to chip down the green (he went over)
