Texans waive RB Bell to make room for OT Tucker

By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

Aug. 8, 2008, 7:59AM

One day before they begin the preseason schedule against Denver at Reliant Stadium, the Texans placed former Broncos running back Mike Bell on waivers and signed free agent offensive tackle Torrin Tucker.

When Bell was signed last week because of Chris Brown's back injury, he showed up out of shape, then suffered a hamstring injury and wasn't able to participate in practice.

Because of injuries, the Texans are desperate for offensive linemen, especially tackles. Tackle Ephraim Salaam (knee) and Scott Jackson (foot) and guard Fred Weary (leg) are out.

Tucker, 28, will be entering his fifth season. The 6-6, 315-pound tackle entered the NFL with Dallas and played for Oakland and Tampa Bay.

Don't get too excited boys ... it's only for depth. Mother Tucker won't see the field unless it's a blowout or the starting OT goes down with injury.

If you can't make it in Dallas, Houston has a roster spot for you.

Wasn't Tucker the other UDFA signed with Tony Romo five years ago? It's interesting how careers can go in either direction.

Is that Peterman next to him? :laugh2:

Might be him, or Pettiti, you know what they say about turnstiles - they all look the same.

Houston's infatuation with lousy ex-Cowboys is not healthy.

Anyone care to speculate who's next on their list?

Quincy?

Those wacky Hambrick boys?

Mario Edwards?

Not a good way to get over their inferiority complex, that's for sure.

Prediction: The ball is snapped, Tucker's man beats him, sacks Schaub and the crowd screams, "Olé!!!"

Poor Mat Schaub.

See what the Texans have done...It got me thinking I should go try out because if Torrin can continue to steal money, I know they should have a place for a 6'6" 315 slightly out shape DE/DT :D.
