I don't even think Owens took the play "off". I just think he got knocked on his keister.
A very common technique for WRs in the run game is to pause at the LOS. If the CB starts to crash, the WR attacks, if the Cb doesn't, it's better to engage the CB at the LOS than down the field. Harris just got a great shot in on him. It happens.
People can throw a lot of things against the wall regarding Owens but his blocking isn't one of them. He gives more effort there than probably any other marquee WR.
