I took some liberties in defining abstract descriptions but there were a few notable decisions that voting members may disagree with. Those alterations are listed below. Please comment on any that are not agreeable or understood. Any corrections may change existing nominee point totals.

1. Palpatine was minimized to Ian McDiarmid's performance in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) only
2. Gollum was minimized to Andy Serkis's performance in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) only
3. Pennywise's television movie/mini-series was separated from the theatrical character
4. Joker's two theatrical performances in The Dark Knight (2008) and Joker (2019) were separated
5. Khan Noonien Singh's two theatrical performances in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) were separated
6. Michael Corleone's three performances were combined under the single The Godfather Trilogy (1972-1990) designation
7. Michael Myers was miniminzed to the original Halloween (1978)
8. Thanos and Loki's multi-movie performances were combined under a single Marvel Cinematic Universe designation

@DallasEast

Do I need to send the Geek Squad to your house to fix the computer? Maybe I can rent you Bill Gates for 15 minutes.......:lmao2:
Trying to think good thoughts about Geek Squad right now. Do not make me go dark on them. :p My home PC is filling in nicely. I was finally able to post the point totals of the nominees. Almost time to make the brackets.

We need to find a new way for entries, not just top voted. Think about it, maybe 8-10 of us send in nominees who all agree for the most part of the top four/six. Don’t be shocked when those same four/six make it to the end. We already know how this will go, might as well list the last bracket now

Basically, I am saying that we are wasting our time in the early rounds because it will end up how they are ranked due to the same people voting......there will not be upsets like in bball. Now, if lets say 1000 outsiders would vote, then expect an upset or three but in this format it will come down to the Joker and Darth Vader.

That is a logical assessment. However, the 'way of entries' is sound in my opinion. It is the level of participation, a la the x number of voting outsiders, that is the issue, I think.

Right now, the ratio of balloting members to non balloting members, who vote in tournament rounds only, is between 2:1 and 4:1. Preferably, I would like a minimum ratio of 15:1 or around 125 total voters per tournament.

There are a few considerations:
  • Most members lurk without logging onto the site on a daily basis.
  • The most active poll participations occur with those posted in the most visited forum on the site, the Fan Zone.
  • Actual level of poll activity varies according to the popularity of the 'uniqueness' of the topic debated. For example: a Cowboys quarterback contract poll attracted 200 voters, while a Cowboys coaching hire poll netted nearly four times more voters.
  • Advertising the tournaments is pretty much restricted to the Off-Topic Zone. 'Word of mouth' promotion would likely produce an uptick in voting participation but the tactic would equally be seen as tiresome to the members who will not hold a lasting self-interest.
  • People will often gravitate towards opinion expression and shy away from having opinion quantified. Another way of putting that is more folks like posting their opinion as opposed to having their opinion measured or gauged.
Honestly, I have been giving your insight some thought before you posted about it. I believe polling is an upgrade over plain debate. In fact, I think polling enhances topic debate by allowing debaters to evaluate how the pros, cons and in-betweens are seen by others.

Even though I thought tournaments was an *EUREKA!* moment, any self-excitement did not make me set realism aside. Participation has grown over the course of their creation but only by a fraction. I have been and am grateful to everyone keeping things afloat consistently but I would be lying if I said I never thought about taking a less active role in the process and seeing if it can breathe on its own without my help lol.

I had an idea to help alleviate predictive results. Instead of everyone submitting a list, have only one person do it.....the guy who’s idea was voted for that particular tourney. So, for the next one, we all vote on the topic per usual, then whoever’s idea was chosen, he submits the list 1-32. That way, we won’t know how it will end up for sure.

This will also speed up the process while not having to wait days for everyone to get their picks in. Just a thought......

Friggin' great idea! I foresee a lot of whining from someone whose idea doesn't get picked, and therefore can't get a win for Elvis.....err, or whatever his favorite choice would be. But still, a great idea to turn the tourneys over faster, without all the repetition. Plus, someone besides @DallasEast will have to deal with the complaints about the choices listed.

Another bonus is that it would matter a lot less how many participants there are.
