NFL | Porter works out at Pro Day
Fri, 7 Mar 2008 11:26:59 -0800
Tony Pauline, of SportsIllustrated.com, reports University of Indiana CB Tracy Porter worked out at his school's Pro Day this week. Porter ran a 4.33 40-yard dash, while he ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine.

I been loving this kid for awhile and could be @22 if other CB's are gone. IMO, this kids stock is on the rise in a big way. Remember, he is from the PortAllen, LA area.

Porter has been compared to Newman by some.

Porter had 83 Tackles, 4 PBU and 6 picks this year.

Adarius Bowman(4.69) and Dez Bryant(a freshman) took Porter to school during their Bowl game. I think I'll pass

I admit that I'm intrigued by him. I like the fact that he compared himself to Newman, and he seemed to be a quality kid.

Do not pay that much attention to times at a pro day. They are hand-held which is why they are almost always faster.

If you are big on the 40 yard times, then concentrate on what they ran at the combine. You'll never get a true time during their pro day.

He ran 4.37 at the combine. Just saying.

I'm a big Porter fan. If the top tier CBs are gone, I say trade down from 22 and grab Porter at 28

I like the fact he seems to be a good kid and very intelligent which tells me he has room to improve especially considering he has all the physical skills you could want outside of maybe bulk.
The kid also played on a horrible defense who were routinely killed up front, so you probably shouldn't hold the fact he had some off games because it's tough covering anyone for five-eight seconds at a time.

40 times are over-rated. Just because your fast doesn't mean you can play in the NFL. Sure you can return kicks, but thats about it.

Which means the original post is wrong.

He ran a 4.30 at his pro day also, which is also wrong in the initial post.

I was watching him do the backpedal/plant drills at the combine and no one looked better than him. He went from going backwards to forwards faster than alot of them went from going forwards to forwards. His change of direction is amazing.

He hasn't been playing the game for very long either so hasn't even tapped his potential.

A Newman clone opposite Newman? I'd spend one of our firsts on that.

I am afraid he will turn out a lot like Reeves but a little better.

The difference? Reeves was a 7th rounder, and Porter looks to be a 2-3 rounder.

he has some work to do, but he's an athlete and a playmaker, he could be our starting punt returner from Day 1

he has great feet and is smooth as they come

Why talk about taking him in the first when he should be there for us in the 2nd?

That scares me, too... But what Rack said is probably the best thing I've seen about Porter. Reeves was fast, but never struck me as very nimble.

Here's something I've asked on other boards but have never gotten an answer... Will he tackle?
