Trade Austin?....

OK it's something I heard while driving home on 105.3 The Fan, and it made me hot under the collar because of the stupidity of it. Just wanted to throw it out on the forums to be discussed.

Arnie Spanier their evenings host was discussing a story he had seen either on PFT or somewhere about why the Cowboys should end up trading Austin and how it would be better for them.

He reckoned that since the Boys already have Roy Williams and are paying him so much money that when they "tag" Austin and some other team comes around offering Austin $10 million a year then JJ can't justify paying Roy 9.5 and Austin 10, therefore letting Austin leave in exchange for two 1st rounders. Arnie argued that since we would then have 2 1st rounders this season and 1 the season after then it would work out because he threw out that we could replace Austin with Jordan Shipley from the 3rd round, and get Gerhart in the 2nd, and trade up to get Suh in the 1st with our 2 #1s.

When people called in to say this was an idiotic idea to get rid of such an impact player in Austin, Arnie reasoned that JJ sent Hershel Walker to Minnesota and that made such a huge difference.

My personal opinion:
Arnie is an idiot for thinking they should get rid of Austin for some picks.

1st off, Hershel Walker was going downhill when we fleeced the Vikings for all those picks. 2nd off the Boys when they traded Walker were a crappy team all around with needs everywhere, Boys now only need a few pieces no need to get rid of a vet for a bunch of rookies.

If anything we get rid of RW and not Austin. No way in HELL the Boys trade Austin b/c if they do they'll have a PR nightmare. You don't trade the guy who essentially saved your season (You don't discover a "Tom Brady" and then trade him away the next season for some picks).

What do ya'll think of this dumb plan.

105.3 The Fan SUCKS! That says it all. Their format sucks, their topics suck. They can not stay to ONE tpoic at a time. They constantly gets their facts mixed up, or, and do not know the history of the NFL, and specifically the Dallas Cowboys...the team they are the flagship of.

I can see the logic in his statemant. But when Jimmy made the trade for Walker, his reasoning was that the current roster had no playmakers or established talent other than Walker. So what he wanted to do was trade one talented player in hopes of getting more talented players.

But we have playmakers and talented people now!! But if we trade Austin and go after a rookie WR, it will take that rookie a couple of years to get going. We spent a lot of time on Austin and we reaped the benefits of that this season. Also that WR would have to get chemistry with Romo, something Austin clearly has with him already.

Jimmy had a 1-15 team that year, so he took the chance and really had nothng to lose. We were an 11-5 team and would mess up the continuity.

The replacing him with Jordan Shipley idea is idiotic as well.

Exactly. Then what would we do? Move Crayton back outside? That worked great last time.... If Shipley went to Oregon everyone would call him a system reciever who put up huge numbers bc his team threw for 60000 yards. But since he went to Texas he's Wes Welker, but BETTER!!!!!!

I love having Austin here but I can promise you if someone was dumb enough to fork over what Minnesota's did for Walker most everyone would jump on that trade

3 vet players
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (21)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990 (47)
Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990 (158)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (11)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional) - (38)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1993 (conditional) - (13)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (40)
Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional) - (71)

Yeah no..... Miles Austin is a RFA which means whatever team signs him to an offer sheet will have to give up picks, unless the Boys match it. If the Boys "tag" him, anyone who wants him will have to trade. In the end, if Austin is gonna end up going to another team they'll have to trade.

hey....genius....you get that list I asked you for yet?
didn't think so.

Most logical thinking people would think that idea is pretty bad.

They blew up Vulcan in the last movie. So there's not many left.

If we could get two 1st rounders every year for the next 5 years I would trade Romo, Austin, Felix, Witten, Ware, Jenkins, McBriar and Ogletree.
I would keep Roy Williams and build the team around him.

Now, did I eliminate all of the talent? "am I not merciful?"

:laugh2:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I love Suh but I never want to have a high draft pick again until a rookie pay scale is enacted.

Austin is here to stay.

Not only would I trade him, I would probably do it for just a first this year and a first next year.

Austin is a product of the system, you can put any other guy into his slot with a decent amount of speed and you will get the same production. As much praise as Austin gets its really Witten and Roy and Crayton that make what he does possible. Witten constantly demands tight coverage from the other team and Roy with his blocking and ABILITY to make big plays also demands that a team cover him tight. Throw Crayton in the mix and you have 2 good WR and 1 superb TE that are making an Average Austin look great.

ITS ALL HYPE! Now is the time to trade him. This is what we should have done with Barber, trade him when he is at the top. Austin is at the top, he will command the highest trade value right now, trade him get some 1st round picks to really build this team and draft a speed WR in the later rounds to replace Miles Shady Austin.

Anyone that thinks Austin is special really need to take a look at how this offense operates, he is a system player (see Big 12 QBs) trade him and leave the other team holding the bag and laugh all the way to the draft bank.

I feel bad for posters that have "Austin" in their user name because next year when he is not here they are going to look as silly as the guys with TO in their user name.

I've seen it all. I dont even know where to begin. just begin to imagine where this team would be without the emergence of Austin..after week 5 teams double teamed him and even tripled teamed him..take away that and were 6-10

I did not realize we got that much for Walker. That was truly the most insane trade in NFL history. 3 # 1's and 3 #2's and more ......

Gotta admit if someone offered us that I would have to say take it. But no one would offer that for anyone we have except D Ware maybe. And must say if they did offer that much for D Ware.......
