Dante Rosario was also traded for a 7th the same week

So two players in the last 9 years that weren't going to make the team for 7th round picks? We are hardly a team that tries to trade players for value, especially during the draft.

Dexter Coakley was the starting WILL back in the debacle before Parcells came in. The defense was bad with holes all over it but one year Coakley who was fast got a couple of picks and was chosen for a pro bowl after someone got hurt. I don't even think he was our best LB at the time as Dat was better IMO.

From that point on though any time a trade was speculated or a player acquisition was proposed Coakley was inevitably someone's suggested offering. We knew he was an average player but hey he got a pro bowl.

Even after he was gone people would propose him thus the joke.
ahhh...got it...thx for the clarification. And yes, I am familiar with Coakley and actually was a fan but agree that he was a fish out of water in the Parcells era and his preference for big AND SLOW LBs.

I love it when comedians or a comedy show can work over a joke/line for effect...sort of like the Seinfeld "not that there's anything wrong with that" mantra. :)

Trades did build the last Cowboy Dynasty...Walker and then trading for Haley. Trades can work.

I know they can work. I was just pointing out that we rarely trade players.

We have traded for a few though through the years.

That's not what you said though. You said no players have been traded in 9 years, that's false and you were wrong

Yes I was wrong.

We made two very forgettable trades.

You could have corrected me instead of telling someone to "do their research" because they forgot we traded a couple guys that were going to be cut for 7th round picks.

Agreed. The club just needs an old fashioned "horsetrader"...there are good Cowboy deals to be made. Emotional attachment is the Enemy.

lol at the trade Dez crowd lol

Someone said S Jones didn't want to give Dez that contract. I've never heard that before, and if you have a link or proof that would be great.

You took it as rude when I said do some research but guess what now you know without doing the research

Yeah, I don't get the trade Dez thought. He looked much quicker at the end of last year than when he came back in 2015 and early 2016. Julio Jones had a similar injury I think and said it took him 2 years to get back to normal. I was watching the pro bowl and saw an NFC receiver get a a catch and look really quick in his run after. Then I realized it was Dez and thought holy mackerel he looks trimmed down and explosive.

Not sure how exhaustive it was. Only 2 rumored teams and they didn't want to trade for him just sign in FA.

Given that circumstance, it's hard to bash the Cowboys FO for not making a deal. After all, it takes another team willing to give up a pick.

My point wasn't intended to "bash the Cowboys FO", they tried. My point is that if they couldn't get something for a quarterback as good as Romo, I don't see them getting anything for anyone else who's even an option to be traded.

Romo is a good QB but he had a ton of question marks.

The lack of legit interest with teams willing to pay him has a good QB probably played a big part in him retiring. He would've eventually landed with the Texans if he wanted to, the money just wasn't worth it to spend so much time away from his family.

No doubt, but he's a proven commodity that should have been attractive to a team like Houston, who are now left trying to talk up Tom Savage.

I think that clear lack of interest after the owners' meetings was the tipping point, for both Romo and the Joneses. If they couldn't get something done by that point, it showed the team it wasn't happening and the player that there wasn't enough interest to continue playing and pass up a #1 broadcasting spot with no guarantee of ever seeing one again.

The dominoes fell quickly after that point.

Can't disagree.

He would've been a Texan eventually but passing up a prime tv gig for a contract probably made up of primarily incentives wasn't worth it.

I'd trade Byron Jones for Landon Collins. We could sell the fact that jones was picked in the first rd, and Collins is a second rd pick plus all the position flex that jones brings.

Winner winner chicken dinner
