Trade for Mankins

The 9 mil was a bonus not salary. It's already been paid. It doesn't come off the books if he's traded or cut only his salary comes off the books.

I understand that, but you said Jerry "has to pay him whether he's cut or traded", indicating what Jerry is going to have to fork out after either scenario plays out. What Jerry "has to pay him" and what Jerry already paid him long ago are two different things.

Besides, that money is gone, and it's not as if Jerry has never made a move with a player he had paid a bonus to before. If Jerry can claim a success in solidifying our offensive line while also claiming his success in acquiring Dez is what made the whole thing possible then Jerry's got all the ego boost he needs, on top of improving the team in the process. I'm sure he would do that, but ike I said, the problem is that NE wouldn't.

Coakley? Are we going to get one of their players from 5 years ago in return?

I think you missed the joke. There's a running joke about trading Coakley whenever another team's player becomes available for a trade. Coakley's name was always mentioned back then and it has never stopped.

Why would anyone want RW? His salary is still 3-4 million a year without looking it up. That's a lot for a number 3 WR.

Mankins would be nice and I don't see a problem paying him. But NE is not just going to give him away. Besides Kosier is more than servicable at LG. I'm not certain the upgrade would be worth it.

Jerry has already taken a 9 mil cap hit for a player that wasn't on the team....TO. I doubt he does that ever again.

This has all been wishful thinking on my part. This offensive line is already overpaid. Bringing Mankins in & paying him close to what he wants would be putting way too many eggs into one positional group.

What we really need is a much bigger sense of urgency from this front office to rebuild the offensive line. By the end of this season, four of the starting five will be 34 years old. I look who's backing them up & it makes my skin crawl. There is no real youth movement in one of the two most important groups of players of the team, (D-line being the other). Over the last two years, Brewster was a major reach & Sam Young is a career backup at best.

You look at the consistently good teams over the last decade & you see teams who, year in & year out, draft O-linemen fairly high up. The Cowboys haven't drafted one in the first two rounds since Jacob Rogers in '04. That's 6 freaking years!! You don't get & stay young there with that kind of mentality. Relying on paying FAs mega-bucks for a five player group is a short term band-aid strategy that will end up biting you down the road.

trade leonard davis and patrick crayton for logan mankins

i think thats a steal for both teams.

Jerry can be so brilliant yet so stupid.

He traded for a loser (and got taken to the woodshed and almost beaten to death) and we're stuck paying a premium for him. Just stupid.

dude...just shut up...really

90%+ of this forum was all for trading for Roy Williams (or almost any other WR) for over a year before it was done. I dont know if you were posting here then, but I'm betting if you were you were probably 1 of those 90%+ who favored the deal.

The idea that the Cowboys were the ONLY team who wanted to give up what we did to get RW is ridiculous. At the time Williams was considered an elite WR, there were supposedly several teams interested in dealing for him. Sure we gave up a 1st and 3rd rd pick to get him, but it wasnt like we gave up a top-5 pick for him or anything. It ended up being the 20th pick of the draft, and had it not been for injuries the previous yr, the pick would have been lower than that.

So far the deal hasnt worked out. But its time to get over it. Some deals work great. Some deals dont. Some high draft picks work out, some dont. We've got a fairly loaded team and just had what appears to be another very solid draft. Jones deserves alot of credit for what we have in place now.

Well then Jerry's coaching staff and scouting department (which inputs/researches on free agents as well as draft prospects) can be so brilliant and stupid as well.

Too much credit is given to Jerry on acquisitions that pan out and too much blame when they don't. He is the GM and owner he gets acknowledgment for pulling the trigger after considering the input and the financial machinations along with Stephen Jones.

Patriot's OG Logan Mankins has made it very clear that he wants to be traded out of New England. Since Jerry doesn't like to draft offensive linemen, especially in the first 2 rounds, maybe he will be more inclined to trade for one. A 2007 Pro-Bowler, Mankins has started 80 out of a possible 80 games since being drafted in the first round in 2005 draft.

Bringing Mankins in would strengthen the offensive line & bring in much needed youth. At 28, he is 3-4 years younger than everyone on the starting line except for Doug Free. Obviously, since he would start, our depth would get that much deeper. I would love to bring in a young, talented LT, but doubt if that's going to happen until after the season.

Since the Pats are short on WR help, and the Cowboys have a plethora of gifted receivers, it seems like a match made in heaven. Any takers?

at what cost? what is a guard worth?

You missed the sarcasm.

Coakley was the butt of every forum trade ever invented back in the day.

It was "Coakley and a 4th rounder for so-so's Pro Bowler".

Hell no it hasn't worked out. We gave up a lot to get a loser. I won't get over it until he's no longer taking a roster spot away from someone who does his job. Yes we had a solid draft, but when it comes to trading for wide receivers, Jerry needs to get out of the business.

Oh this ought to be enlightening.

What is Roy Williams job?

No, someone who does his respective job.

His job is to know the playbook, know his quarterback, run good routes, and catch the ball most of the time. He's lacking in all 4.

I'm gonna quit bringing it up. I'll just be glad when he's no longer on the team.

I didn't think I would get an answer. I was right.

I gave you the answer. I don't think Roy Williams does his job. I said he's taking a spot away from someone who will do his job, whatever it is.

The key words right there.

Meanwhile the team and coaches disagree.

Go figure.
