Trade for Mike Glennon?

Here's an article in which the writer makes predictions about the Cowboy season. They're predictions, meaning speculation, but this offseason is boring, so take it for what it's worth. He's saying they'll trade for Tampa Bay QB Mike Glennon. I haven't seen the guy play, but if he's a solid backup, I would send Leary there for him. After last season's QB debacle, I want a decent veteran QB on the roster who has been through training camp and preseason and knows the system. Last year during training camp time, I was screaming for the team to cut Weeden and sign a better veteran. He had sucked the season before in the game against the Cardinals. I have no doubt that Matt Cassel would have done better if he had been through training camp and preseason. Would he have played well enough to get the Cowboys to the playoffs? That I don't know. He may have stunk up the place anyway, but backups have the best chance to be effective if they've been through camp instead of having to learn an offense in a few weeks.

We used to also debate whether the team should have 2 QBs or 3 on the active roster. After last season, it seems clear to me that we should have 3. Whoever performs best in camp, Prescott, Moore, or Showers should be on the roster IMO as the 3rd QB rather than be poachable on the practice squad. I remember we lost a good QB in Alex Taney to practice squad poaching. I couldn't help but wonder if he could have helped us last year. Give the 2nd and 3rd guys some reps with the first squad in practice. Obviously you can't take too many away from your starter, but give them some. And if we're lucky enough to be blowing out some other team, give the 2nd and even the 3rd some mop-up reps in a real game. I just want this team to be prepared in case Romo goes down. Yes, I know, if he's down an extended period, we can pretty much kiss our butts goodbye, but if he's down 1 to 4 games, we should be able to stay in the hunt. I remember Aikman had a good backup in Beuerlein, Staubach had good ones in Morton, and then Longley, and then White. Playing with your backup QB should not be a death sentence.

Stephen has spoken. The Cowboys are going with what they have until all 3 QB's backing up Romo have "spit the bit" so
to speak. The youth movement is in full force at VR and they are not bringing any re-treads from other teams.

I definitely would trade for him. I like what I saw from him. Probably isnt the QB of the future but a solid backup for a long time in my opinion. With a 20% shot at being THE GUY. If given time, he can get it there.

Glennon looks real lanky, slow, and is a statue player. His only positive is a big arm and young age. He will never win a gun fight but can probably put a couple of scores on a board. Right now I think this team is set at qb for the year. Maybe next year if Moore and Showers do not show much.

Glennon is a borderline ok QB, decent backup I guess but TB probably wants a 2nd for a QB who had a few good games and will never be a pure starting QB in the NFL.. Let's see what we have in Prescott before we go jumping the gun.

I've seen Glennon play live on countless occasions. He can start in this league, but like every QB he needs a line to protect and some consistency at OC/HC.

Is the collective group of Tony Romo, Kellen Moore, Jameill Showers and Dak Prescott really any worse than Romo, Weeden, Cassel, Moore? And would Mike Glennon really be an improvement?

I think he's better than all three of our backups right now.
Not sure if Dak can pass him up in a year or so.

For that matter, as of this season only, it wouldn't surprise me if Glennon is better than all rookie QBs....including Goff and Wentz. That's why talks of drafting a QB this year to help our backup QB situation ..this year..was a bit misplaced, IMO.

Of course, by 2017 those top rookies are expected to blow by him (so good long term move)
Just maybe not this year

if he could play qb you think the bucs would of drafted another qb in the first round the next year?

I thought the same thing but if we had the number one pick back in April, we would've likely taken a QB as well. You just don't get in those situations often so you might as well maximize the the impact. The Bucs may have graded Glennon enough to be a solid starter but Winston grades as All Pro potential.

Knowing how Stephen's mindset works, I'm guessing we'll probably go with what we've got in house and hope either Moore or Showers can handle the backup QB job as required. Stephen prefers to play it close to the vest when it comes to spending money signing out-of-house talent.

I like him as a backup. We're apparently not in the market for a guaranteed QB2, but if we were, he'd make a lot of sense in Dallas where the OL can protect him and he can do what he does best.

I liked the idea of trading for Glennon prior to the draft...but it's unlikely now.

As a rookie, behind one of the worst O-Lines in the league...he threw 19 TD's vs. 9 Int's & completed 59.4% of his passes. Behind that same O-Line, vet Josh McCown threw 11 TD's vs. 14 Int's & completed 56.3% of his pass in 11 starts (didn't survive the season).

So Ron Leary has the same trade value as a backup QB now? We probably couldn't get a fourth round pick for Leary, so what else would we have to throw in to get a serviceable QB?

And I don't want that guy anyway, he looks just like Chad Hutchinson in the picture on that site. Just looking at it made me throw up in my mouth a little. Too many bad memories.
