The trade back debate is in full swing and I understand why. It definitely could be very helpful.
If you feel like you can't get the couple of really good players, that fit our biggest needs, to fall to us at 12 and anyone else you take there will basically be the same caliber of player as you can get a bit later in the round. So in theory getting 2 good players that fit the needs list, is better than getting just 1 good player or 1 great player that you didn't really want/need. Makes total sense.
But, y'all need to remember that you have to have a trade partner to make that happen. And I personally just don't see a lot of teams willing to move up this year. Maybe, like if S Sanders does fall he could generate some movement. But other than an over rated QB, who is so good that teams want to give up premium draft capital for? I mean basically the majority of them are all 2nd rd graded players, right? And you think teams will give up their 1s and 2s to get one of these guys? I don't.
I'd be more inclined to trade back a few spots in Rd 2 and try to get a 4th rd pick back. Then maybe try to put together a package to get another 3rd or 4th rd pick somehow. If you want several good players to fill our holes than this is the better option IMO.
And TBH, it just seems a bit odd to me when the talent in this draft is so thin up the top with only 12-15 1st rd graded players, yet so many fans want to trade away from one of these very few, possibly great, actual highly talented 1st rd graded players. IMHO, this team needs help all over the field so almost any position you take will be a good fit for the team. Within reason of course. i.e. I'm not drafting a QB or a kicker at 12. But you can make an argument that just about any other spot on the field could use help. Even if it's redundant help like taking another top flight edge rusher, or spending the capital on another OT. It may not be what we want or need the most, but it will help the team get better.
