I'm with you. The sliver of trepidation I am currently entertaining is founded in the fact that everything the Cowboys do on both sides of the ball starts with the offensive line. If the Cowboys don't find a viable replacement for Guard or Tackle, this could be a very long year.

Bell has experience and can play guard & tackle. Looney didn't perform horrible last year in his appearances. We're going to find out about Collins and Green so we'll know some ins and outs by the 3rd week of TC. There will be some lineman available during last cuts before the season so being patient may pay off.

No way bring Parnell back. He couldn't beat out Free before, so why in the heck would be be his replacement now.
We have 3 players competing for the RT position so let them work it out in TC.

I see what you did there...I suppose it's possible, but considering the above conversation I do wonder if the Cowboys would view him as an upgrade over what they already have.

Clady, IMO, is light years over what we currently have at RT but that's just my opinion and the question remains, would the team think he's worth what he might want?

Does anyone have clips of Cleary, this is all I've seen

Nice handwork in a limited sample. Maybe Dallas has something here.

Question in camp will be trying to get the best 5 OL; is Cleary/ OT and Collins/ G better than Collins/ RT and (fill in the blank) at G.

I'd prefer to keep Collins at G.

Nine seems like the number that would be good to have enough back up.

I think so. I think they have enough talent there to keep and you can never have too many good linemen.

For me, the squeeze on this year's roster comes at defensive line and secondary. Given contracts, signings, and draft picks, it looks like they have to go long there.

I see him as an older Chaz Green at this point. He's been a good left tackle, but hasn't played on the right side since college in 2005 I think. And he's played in something like 27 games over the last four years and missed all of 2015.

It says a lot to me that there's little interest in him, especially given some teams left tackle situations.

Believe Cooper will be great with the power run game which suits him, and Collins will be as good as Free at RT giving us a better line. Question I have can we resign both.

I should have pointed out that the best case scenario is the Cowboys already have someone in-house, but from what I've read there is still doubt. Everything the Cowboys do hinges on that ol so I hope you are right!
Like every NFL club. These one game showdowns are hard to win consistently.

Yep. He sure could be.I mean he was highly regarded at one time. Can he make it back? If he does...watch out!!

Considering what little we've seen of our OL backups, I'm confident that the Dallas offensive staff will have a much better idea than we do as to what to think of our in-house OL backups. The staff will also have some good film to go by once the preseason gets underway. Unseen possibilities are quite likely to make themselves known by then.

If anyone on the outside becomes available upon the final cuts, injuries and what they've seen of our guys in our TC and preseason will surely enter strongly into their decisions. To be sure, there will be much testing to be done amongst our o-linemen who are still relatively unknown.

The two keys are Cooper and Collins. It is clear the Boys are not willing to trust Green to stay healthy- considering his injury record in college and the pros that is a smart decision. So that means they have to have at least another tackle that can play as well as Green showed. that seems to be Collins though Cleary might sneak in there. Actually the bigger question is at LG. The boys hope Cooper can return to the form that made him a first rd pick. If so everything becomes fairly easy. IF NOT, then its a lot more murky. For one thing Collins wants to go to tackle because you get paid better there and its a higher profile position. If he shows he can play well there he will resent being sent back to guard. There has been some indication that Bell is a thought at LG. He seems to be the fallback there.

I think Emmett Cleary was the 2nd best Tackle the Cowboys had last year !!! I think he should be given the chance to be the starting RT.

I haven't gone back and watched his tape, but he was pretty much the guy I would focus on when he was in.

He played surprisingly well.

A full season has a way of exposing players, but he looks to be a solid guy.

Hat tip goes to @IrishAnto

My unbridled optimism here lately has invited the occasional reality check from fellow bloggers…as well it should…were I in my right mind, I’d give the man in the mirror quite the tongue-lashing! Trouble is, I’m rarely if ever in my right mind. I think I might be left-brained, because I left it somewhere a long time ago.

Anywho, I have to admit, the offensive line is a concern. The Cowboys current options to replace Leary if La'el moves to Right Tackle never measured up to their draft billing (Jonathan Cooper). The option to replace Free, if La'el stays at Guard, has simply not been able to remain healthy (Chaz Green). Behind those two is even more uncertainty.

Recently Stephen Jones hinted that once a portion of Romo’s salary falls off the cap, they may entertain some trade options. The first question that popped in my head was what position would they target? So, I went through the various positions from top to bottom and the following are the conclusions I came to:

I don’t see them adding anyone to the defensive line until they find out exactly what they have in Taco and Tapper. DT is a slim possibility, as they already have Maliek Collins and an improvement at 1-tech would likely cost too much draft capital.

I doubt they would add a linebacker if Jaylon is in fact ready to play. It wouldn’t make sense to trade for a guy who is most likely going to be a backup.

The secondary is definitely off-limits, as the majority of their new additions via the Draft and Free Agency are there and I can’t see them making a move to add a progress-stopper.

So, while defense is riddled with questions, I think the Cowboys will stand pat on that side of the ball.

On offense, it’s pretty clear the Cowboys are set at WR, TE, RB and QB. Granted, you might not like Moore as a backup option but at the same time, Dak is not the same injury risk that Romo was, so I could certainly see them rolling into the season with what they have.

That leaves offensive line. To determine potential options, I am looking at the teams that added offensive tackle talent high in the draft, where I believe a potential trade could develop.

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Cam Robinson. They currently have Branden Albert (LT, 32) and Jermey Parnell (RT, 30) listed as their current starting Tackles. Cam, for the moment, is being listed at LT, but given Parnell’s history with the Cowboys, it is possible that they would move Cam or Albert to RT to compensate for Parnell’s loss and trade him to the Cowboys to whom he would likely have the most value.

The Denver Broncos added Garrett Bolles. The Broncos will likely immediately slide Garrett Bolles into the starter position at LT considering that the Offensive Tackles of a year ago underperformed. Donald Stephenson (LT, 28) and Ty Sambrailo (RT, 25) are the current offensive tackles listed. However, last year the RT was Russell Okung who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers March 9, 2017. So, if the Broncos look to move someone it would most likely be Stephenson, who has largely underperformed in his role. The question is would moving him to RT on an offensive line that features 3 Pro Bowlers help his game? He could certainly be had on the cheap, in my opinion.

Ryan Ramczyk went to the Saints. Zach Strief (RT, 33) and Terron Armstead (LT, 25) are the current tackles. Ryan will likely replace Zach, which could make him available. Forget about Terron…there is no way they are letting him walk. Behind Terron, however, is Khalif Barnes (LT, 35), who they could possibly dangle as trade bait, but I'd rather see what options come available following final cuts then giving up draft capital for someone who may very well be released during final cuts, if not sooner.

I briefly took a look at the Guards taken in this year draft, and I could not find anyone behind them that I thought might be an improvement over what the Cowboys already have. But, to be fair, I didn't look very hard, because my ideal scenario involves La'el staying right where he is at Left Guard.

So out of the above possibilities, I could certainly see Jermey Parnell making a return to Dallas…and with Free gone and a better chance at starting for a team like the Cowboys, I’m pretty sure that’s a return he would be eager to undertake. Furthermore, if I’m not mistaken, his cap hit for the Cowboys would be 6.5 and the guaranteed money has already been paid, so the move would be doable for the Jaguars.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Your best post ever...Parnell back to the Cowboys.

I refuse to give up more than two 1st round picks to get him...

We aren't trading for Jeremy freaking Parnell. The offseason can't end soon enough
Probably not... but at least he is familiar with the playbook and system.

See, now you're just being sarcastic. One first would be sufficient, and maybe a third.

Two first he says...smh

The Cowboys OL was at it's peak in the 7 games that Parnell started in 2014.
