Trade Schoonmaker?

so you are already putting Spann-Ford into the pro bowl? Would be stupid to trade schoonmaker. He has 2 more years left on a dirt cheap contract. You need players on first contracts.
To win a Super Bowl you need a lot of players good enough they’re on their second contract.

Oh, IDK, would it be stupid to trade Jalen Brooks? How about Buddy Johnson? Can we put Matt Waletzgo on the block?

Everyone seems to have ideas on trading Cowboys players for some reason. I have no idea what Schoonmaker will turn out to be but compare his first two year stats to Dalton Schultz and you can see Schoonmaker has actually been more productive that Schultz was. This article suggests Miami is looking for a TE, but the logic seems a bit off. Why would Miami look for a TE like Schoonmaker if Schoonmaker can't beat out Spann-Ford in Dallas?
It was a stupid pick - almost as bad as the Escobar Incident.

Sounds to me it's just wanting to trade just to trade. There is no good reason to trade Luke. He has great potential so continue to develop him and be patient.

Trade an overreach 2nd rounder for a 6 or 7 is a Jerry type move. Best to see if the lights click on in his 3rd year. I haven’t seen anything to suggest he can play but also not sure if he has had a full chance.

He does? According to whom?

I doubt they trade him. Fergy will be gone next year so they'll expect schoon to step in as starter for his contract year. They likely aren't extending any of the current guys. Barring injury they'll have fergy and schoon this year and schoon-spanford next year plus they'll draft someone next year.

Yup. And in the 2nd round so we can be sure not to win playoff games as we draft TEs instead of run stoppers. Just keep on keepin' on.

Ask yourself this. Exactly which 2nd round TE that we've taken since Witten has worked out? Insanity. If McClay is truly the GM as some claim, then he is one dumb sonofagun.

well he is not a pass catching TE. his forte was blocking in college. cowboys liked the athleticism. his knock in college was he was injured often and now two years in the pros and he has been injured both years and now got injured again in camp.

waste of a pick. take a 5th or 6th and move on.

He didn't get injured in camp.

Right now we would get very little in a trade.

I would rather see if the light bulb goes on for him in year 3. He started to come on a bit last season and show some growth.

Huge TC for him to step up
I was was wanting Tyler Warren in the first round but I was very happy with Tyler Booker at 12 .Dallas looks good at TE.

Not a fan of drafting TE's high. Especially seeing how they use them. They can get what they need deeper in the draft just fine.

Those guys are contending for back-end spots at best. Schoonmaker is contending to be our No. 2 tight end, and there are times that you play three. Brooks, Waletzko and Johnson may not even see the field, unless it's on special teams.

If one of the rookie TEs along with Spann-Ford outshine Schoonmaker in the preseason, then go for it on trading him. Of course, he'd have no value in that case.

His group has definitely been better with later-round tight ends than the early-round ones, although Martellus Bennett went on to some decent seasons elsewhere. I mean, Ferguson, Schultz and even Geoff Swaim have been better picks (so far) than Schoonmaker and Gavin Escobar. In fact, the only late-round TE we've missed on since 2013 (when we drafted Escobar) is Rico Gathers. Even Witten was a third-round pick.

I think Ferg bounces back and Schoon and the rest fill in adequately.

The key to the offense will obviously be whether or not the running game improves. If it does, then we should see a marked improvement on production, efficiency, and RZ scoring %
