Trade Schoonmaker?

TEs often take time to develop.

Jason Witten looked mediocre after his first season. People see Brock Bowers and think that is normal.

TEs coming in to the NFL generally excel at one thing because few are asked to catch and block. At the NFL level, unless you are a super elite TE, you have to do both.

These guys have to know both the receiving routes and the blocking schemes. If is one of the more complicated roles on the offense.

I doubt they trade a 2nd round pick after 2 years unless someone offers similar round compensation which is unlikely.

How did you people get this to four pages?

He’s a miss and if you want to trade him, he’s a sixth round pick

Done

I love how fans think guys who can’t beat out an UDFA even though they were second rounders has trade value .

I think Ferg bounces back and Schoon and the rest fill in adequately.

The key to the offense will obviously be whether or not the running game improves. If it does, then we should see a marked improvement on production, efficiency, and RZ scoring %
I can see Dallas inside the 3 yard line 1st and goal Schottenheimer brings in Brevin Spann-Ford and Jake Ferguson. In the back field you have Hunter Leupke at fullback and Phil Mafah at tail back , and Cee Dee or Pickens out wide or Turpin or Blue as your slot receiver .Dallas can play smash mouth football, I like the chances running the ball 3 times in a row or you have 5 receivers who you could scheme open if you are running the ball well.Dallas should be potent with both the pass and the run this season.

He didn't get injured in camp.
He is probably one of Dallas's better blocking tight ends and he looked really good last season when Ferguson was injured.Good blocking tight ends are must haves in this running game, and Dallas will play two tight ends quite a bit this season I figure.

Unlles there ae major behind the scenes medical concerns , or coaches and staff think he is totally lacking in effort all over the place on and off field
monster character issues ,....or some very dumb NFL team decides to make a " can't refuse" trade for Schoon's services , he will not gonna be traded.

For all the team may see it, Luke could suddenly slash and surprise come camp time to put together hope that he will turn he corner -if we're hoping for a Bowers or Laporta, i think by now we can forget that pipe dream.

Schoon may always be heavily scrutinized because he was a high draft pick per 2nd round, and expected to be a difference making starter

If BSF tears it up in camp, I’d rather trade Fergie. Easily get a 2nd (or a decent defender and a 5th) for him.

well he is not a pass catching TE. his forte was blocking in college. cowboys liked the athleticism. his knock in college was he was injured often and now two years in the pros and he has been injured both years and now got injured again in camp.

waste of a pick. take a 5th or 6th and move on.
A guy who was injury prone in college is still injury prone in the pros? No way. You don't gotta lie!!!!!!!!

Miami just traded Waller.
They traded for a retired player which is an odd flex the player they traded away was a better player and yet they get a guy who not only retired last year and was retired So how can they drain they gave a draft pick for him.

Sure, that's better than the Cowboys get a guy who doesn't want to play when you retire because you weren't that good and you couldn't handle the criticism why would a team even bother bringing you back?

In my opinion people are too worried about Schoonmaker where he was picked In my opinion he can be Dalton Schultz if he was just given starter snaps like legitimate stayed on the field in Fergusons role he may not be quite as dynamic as Ferguson but I think he can easily put up those kind of numbers has anyone checked the numbers of Dalton Schultz lately?.

He peaked and he's already on the downhill literally just a very average tight end and that's why the Cowboys were right to move on from him,

Ferguson is struggling and here we are picking on a guy that's not getting enough snaps to see what he could do as a starter.

Again he's not dynamic but the dude could catch the football he's very physical he can catch in traffic he can move the chains Who cares if the Cowboys over drafted the guy If given a chance I think he could easily put up Dalton Schultz numbers and how much money is Dalton Schultz making over there in Houston's success I don't know I'm guessing I think it was around 11 million to put up 500 yards and like 2 touchdowns...hmmm

I'm serious here so Dalton Schultz started out super slow became a better starter than more they gave him snaps but still on average over seven years he's averaging around 500 yards and a little over three touchdowns per season dudes making $11 million a year..

Let's keep this real The first two seasons for Dalton Schultz he had less yards and less touchdowns than the first two seasons with Luke Schoonmaker and let's stop with the nonsense about where he was drafted give him more touches and I bet he gets similar results as Dalton Schultz who right now is making a little over $11 million per year with Houston being a Jag.. At least Luke is on a rookie deal we can cut him move on no big deal who cares about where he was drafted it happens...

Let's just keep on this little debate we're having Dallas Goedert been one of the steadiest pretty good tight ends in the NFC literally the last two seasons after he got paid big money he's averaging about five hundred yards and two touchdowns, the last two seasons... He just restructured because he's been robbing Philly because his numbers are just dropping off a Cliff for one year 11 million, just think about this lukes making what 1.5M? meh

Everyone seems to have ideas on trading Cowboys players for some reason. I have no idea what Schoonmaker will turn out to be but compare his first two year stats to Dalton Schultz and you can see Schoonmaker has actually been more productive that Schultz was. This article suggests Miami is looking for a TE, but the logic seems a bit off. Why would Miami look for a TE like Schoonmaker if Schoonmaker can't beat out Spann-Ford in Dallas?

I say give the guy till the end of his contract give him legitimate targets and let's see what he can do before everyone's just throwing in the white Flag on this guy..

There's no way you're getting a second round pick for Ferguson do people overrate everyone around here look at what other tight ends in similar situations have gotten you might get a 4th rounder and maybe the Cowboys could use another 4th rounder they seem to give them away like candy so yeah it might be worth doing that..

There's a lot of ifs so let's just let training camp preseason play out and then we can talk about all this...

We don't have a TE on the roster who's worth a 2nd or 3rd.

Exactly isn't that what I meant,

I mean Ferguson is technically our starter and there's no way he's worth a second... Realistically you might be able to get a fourth for the guy to a desperate team.

Not sure, you talk in such long convoluted sentences mostly no one knows what you mean.

TE #1 and TE #2 are really different positions.

#1 is more receiver than blocker.

#2 is more blocker than receiver.

If Ferguson is out, Schoonmaker would be the #1, but might be #3 if Ferguson is healthy because Spann-Ford is a better blocker than Schoonmaker or Ferguson.

Spann-Ford might be one of the best blocking TEs in the league. I seriously think he could function as an emergency 3rd OT on gameday. i.e. Finish out a game playing OT if a starter and the swing tackle were both injured.

Spann-Ford just needs to be half-decent as a receiver in order to get extensive playing time.
