Why isn't anyone considering this as an option for us to jump ahead of Chicago to get Donald?

They have a top 5 pick from Washington so they're gonna get a great early pick and it would most likely only cost us a 5th or 6th to move up 3 spots.

We don't have cap space for guys like Hatcher or Bennett but at least we get who we really want in the draft.

And we can always trade back in the 2nd to get a 5th round pick back.

According to the points chart it would have to be at least a 4th round pick, if not a 4th and 7th. That's pricey. Bears may not even pick Donald. Easley is not a bad option at all and can be grabbed in the 2nd.

Been saying this for awhile now. I have no problem trading up a few spots for Donald.

If we had actually plugged a few more holes in FA, I would be alright with trading up. But for now, it looks like we will need all 10 picks to actually have a chance to add any appreciable talent to the roster.

I get your point, but it appears we are going cheap and going to rely on Marinelli to work his magic on a bunch of JAGs. We need a blue chipper somewhere on the line and Donald is that guy. He reminds me of Suh, but with Sapp's speed and hands.

We cannot afford the projects of the past, we need players that can play right away.

Nobody trades back in the 1st round for 5th, it would cost us more than that. And no, there is indeed life after Donald. We have too many holes to trade resources for 1 guy.

This. Therotically Donald is a nice piece. Too many people around here are acting like this is Bob Lilly part 2. I dont like the idea of drafting scheme specific players for a coaching staff I expect to be elsewhere in 2015.

they must not trade up...they need every available pick that they can get...if they don't like who's there at 16, then trade down for other picks is a better option...get more horses in the stable

And it will be something I have a feeling we look back on a year from now and just cackle insanely.

But that is exactly what we are doing. More of a sign why when our ownership has no independent vision of what the Dallas Cowboys should be about is a serious problem.

Bingo. This is the dilemma I see as well. However Donald's junior year he played NT in the 34 and had the same type of season. That's why I think that he can't be labeled just as a 3tech.

If you asked me right now what I would rather have, a new staff or Donald, I go with the new staff. :)

If we trade out of the position it will be to trade down not up.

This

This is being touted as the deepest draft EVER
This is one where we trade down to mid 20s and take whoever is a available out of Donald/Jernigan/ hagemann

With the extra third we could get an OL starter like Thomas or turner or a great rotational guy like Reid

i totally understand everyone who wants to trade down. I wouldn't be opposed to it either, but the more i hear about Donald's potential in our scheme, the more interested i get. I hate the idea of him going to Chicago and becoming everything we all thought he would, knowing we had him within our grasp.
That being said, i won't be disappointed if we trade back, and hit a grand slam with the extra picks we get. Its the grand slam part that worries me, lol.

Have to also consider that Donald and Melton both are 3t so if we pick up Melton Donald becomes less important

Been there, done that recently with the Rams. I'd pass. I don't think we have the luxury to trade up this year. This draft is plenty deep into the 4th round. Stay put, let the draft come to us and take BPA.

yeah me either. I would offer a 5th and one of our 7ths. Really what are we going to come away with in the 5th thats going to help out this year as much as Donald can help us.

Every year some get focused on a particular player and by the time draft time approaches it's almost a desperate favored pitch. I think two years ago it was DeCastro.

Calm down and let the draft come to us.

DT is fairly deep this year, as is the draft overall.
It'd cost maybe a 3rd (with us getting back a 5th) or maybe a 4th and 5th. They could be real useful this year.

Not just the bears that may take Donald, I saw a mock with StL taking him. Believe we will be forced to trade up in order to get him. If not him or Manziel, we def need to trade way down, if not out of round one IMO
