They may need to move up to 18 to get a WR like Austin or Patterson. They have 23 and 25 and getting another 2nd or 3rd or a high pick next year could be a good move if all our players are gone. Even their own players don't know who their WRs are right now.

So we give them 18 in exchange for 25 and 83?

I haven't looked at the Draft Chart yet, but that sounds about right. Could maybe squeeze the 23 out of them.

Not that anybody uses the trade value chart. But the trade I mentioned would be even points-wise.

With as many holes as we have on the roster, why on earth would we trade up to grab a WR?

Dez and Austin are plenty of firepower from that position..

Vikings would be trading up for 1 of the WR's, they traded Harvin for an extra 1st and might want to use the extra pick to replace him with a younger, cheaper, and less injury prone WR. OP has us trading back 5 or 7 spots with the Vikings.

Its not a bad idea, just impossible to predict a trade like this before the draft happens. Who knows who will be on the board at 18. If we want a sure fire starter at guard we will have to most likely stay put at 18 and draft either Cooper or Warmack. If Jerry doesn't want to go guard and all of the top d lineman + Vacarro are off the board I'd say its a real possibility we trade back.

I have no clue how the point chart for the value in picks work, but would 18 + a 2nd & 5th be enough for 23-25? I know this isn't realistic & Minny won't trade their 1's, it's just a question of what it takes to make that kind of trade. Trying to learn more than anything

I like this idea, was actually thinking about something similar this morning.

I know Vikes fans are probably concerned right now, but if they go out and sign a Greg Jennings and draft Austin/Patterson, they might be onto something.

I think they would be more interested in a trade for a vet WR. If we wanted to entertain the idea, this might be a good opportunity to move Austin, if that is of interest to Minnesota.

try this

http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/draftchart.php

The trade with our 18 (900) for Minny's 25 and 83 (720+175) is a very fair deal.
Doesn't remotely mean that either party would do it, but it is an example of real possibilty based on value.

The chart is not exact by any means, but FOR SURE teams do use a value chart of some sorts that at least is somewhat close to this. Not at all exact because each trade is unique and different teams place more value on draft picks than others.
But for the most part close...Otherwise you wouldn't see so many trades caome so close to this thing every year.

Even as wild as the RG3 trade seemed last year...it worked on a value chart (90-95% accurate) if you go by the standard premis that next years' 1st rounder is valued at this years 2nd rounder, a first two years from now would have the present value of a 3rd rounder.

I don't know where the team's heading but I'm looking for an OT then interior OL and S in the first if at all possible. If we can move down and accomplish that then by all means. Just don't get cute and miss out.

THIS

Also, some may want to keep in mind that trading down is more of real time, draft day thing.

You see how the draft is playing out and if you lose out on what you want for your spot but see a bunch of guys still there in the next tier, trading down makes complete sense and is the smart thing to do.
But if you trade dwon so far you miss all the guys you like in the next tier (see 2009) then you blew it.

This is true, but it's always good to try and identify what teams have extra picks, like MINN and SF before hand. In crunch time it's easier to get a deal if you did some homework.

Absolutely.

I'm sure they have trade scenarios programed for every team, but certain ones would be highlighted.
Anyway, they'll check on potential interest way before draft day anyway in case a scenario unfolds that looks good for one or both teams.

I hate trading down simply because JJ and his staff can't evaluate talent good enough to pull it off. IF I'm wrong, please point out specific examples. When was last time we successfully traded down and it worked out for us? Prove me wrong...PLEASE because I really like the idea of trading down at 18, just don't trust JJ and his "front office" to do it

I'd say our 2004 trade with Buffalo worked out well. We also did pretty well in 2007 by trading out and then back into the first.

I like trading back as well in theory, it just seems like we don't do it right. I could be wrong, but it never seems like we get enough value back. The Steven Jackson trade back fiasco still bothers me. We did get a first next year once, but it seems NE always gets more.

Go look at the NE trade in the second last year -- they got truly awful value (a 3rd and a 5th).
