I know it's an unrealistic "pipe dream", but I can't help but wonder about a blockbuster trade up to #1 overall for Myles Garrett.

The cost would be huge in terms of multiple 1st round picks, but if you're as good as you hope to be, those picks are very late 1st rounders anyway. The way this team is built, unless your quarterback is lost for the year, you shouldn't stay in contention for a long while.

And having found your solution at the most difficult position to fill in all of sports, that does allow you some flexibility in using your 1st round picks.

Purely for the sake of conversation and debate, I'd be interested to see the hypothetical "cost" for Dallas to move up to #1 overall.

It would destroy our draft stock, Stash, for two seasons. We're simply too far away from 1 overall. Hue has said he isn't trading the pick, as well.
 
Cant wait to see how this year's draft falls.
Lots of potential in that 20-50 range.

I see a trade up in round two as more likely.
Maybe even a small trade down from 28... depending on who is taken already.

I'd have to think that it would take our first rounders for the next three years - 2017, 2018, and 2019.

But, if I have my needs filled at QB, RB, WR, LT, C, RG, and DE for the long haul, I might be able to live without those 1st rounders. If Garrett is as special as we would hope, this team would be well set up for quite a long time. The only true need I see after that is at cornerback, but if you don't give up your entire draft, it's a need you should be able to fill.

If you believe the Cowboys have undergone a paradigm shift to a "draft first" team, they are likely to trade down, not up.

And pretty much everyone that does not have multiple picks in the 2nd and 3rd will be looking to get some. I don't see the market unless it is for a desperation move for a QB or something. The draft is deep enough at several spots where teams that have those coveted picks can be patient and let the draft come to them.

It would take much more than 3 1sts. LA traded 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds to move up from 15, with the expectation that LA would continue to be mediocre. What do you think it would take for 28 from a Superbiwl contender? Not worth it at all.

It really doesn't matter what the true cost would be because it's not worth it. I would thing of it being Ricky Williams trade times 2. So pretty much 2 whole drafts and another 2 1sts.

It's fine if it's "not worth it" in your opinion. We're all entitled to one.

I was just curious if anyone knows the true cost or a ballpark figure of what it would take. If I saw that, I'd probably feel the same way you do. I was just looking for something more specific.
 
There's not much I would trade up for. Maybe if Barnett fell to 20 or so. That'd be about it.

Now moving up just a couple/three spots for someone the team really likes, I might do. That isn't much of a trade though.

It'd be difficult to come up with a ballpark cost because there is no precedent for that high of a jump. Washington traded 3 1sts to move from 6 to 2 for RG3. Ditka traded an entire draft plus another 1st and 3rd to move from 12 to 5 for Williams. Trades themselves are variable due to need, desperation, talent scarcity, etc, never-mind adding in how unprecedented a jump from 28 to 1. So really I don't think anyone can accurately say what it would cost but I think doubling a ridiculous precedent would be a starting point.

I agree, the fact that u can snag a FA when u dont have 1st to pay ala NE and Gilmore changes the game a bit.
