Trading 2014 #1 for

So it's a good idea if we go 3-13 this year. And miss out on drafting a qb in next years draft. So we can get a second this year. Ummm no

Actually, I'd say a 2014 #1 for the 34th pick is pretty solid value.
For starters, I don't like that draft at all value-wise.

But you're right. IF you assume we draft at pick out of the top 10 or so, it is good value.

I'm not saying to do it at all. But value-wise, it is very fair.

If we picked 20th next year, the present value would be about 50ish this year....so 34th is great.
The vlaue is off enough, you could do that trade, then turn back around and get a 1st and 2nd rounder in 2014 for that 34th pick.

The problem here is if we did really scuk this year and ended up with a top 10 pick, then we would have blown it.

@SullyBaldHead: Cowboys really like the depth in this draft, don't be surprised if they trade future picks (2014-15) for more selections this April.

I dont think he was talking about future #1s. For god sakes no. I want a QB in the first next year. I'd consider a Commanders move for Bridgewater, he will be a star.

Yeah, pretty sure baldy was not referring to 1st rounders.

how about we trade our first rounder this year if the guards are gone and get a #2 this year and a #1 next year? SF may want to trade that KC pick to move up? thought I would throw out another unlikely scenario since the original one is hopefully something the team would NOT consider...

Yeah, I think the trade would actually be pretty decent.

In 2011, New Orleans traded their current 2nd and the following year's 1st just for number 28.

In 2009, Denver traded their next year's first for #37.

In 2007, San Fran traded their next year's 1st plus a current 4th (110) for #28.

I don't think that it's unreasonable to think that Dallas could pick low-mid 20s. Winning 1 playoff game makes your best pick around #25.

Lets say they finish average again or maybe get 9 wins. That'd probably be #20.

At worst you're taking a 14 spot hit and at absolute, although long-shot best, it could be a 2 spot drop.

If next year's draft is weaker than this years, seems like a good move.

If you look at a trade valu chart you can see why this is a really bad idea. It is fine if you make the playoffs. If you end up with pick number nine you have killed yourself.

You would be wrong.

typically in a straight up trade, a current #2 = next year's #1

However I can see us picking in the top 5, just as easily as I can see us picking 25+

So I don't trade a #1

Unlikely scenario, I agree. But looking at my own board, this is what I'll try to do. If the guards are gone, as you said. I don't care too much for Vaccaro, Fluker and the other guys expected to go in that range.

I'm saying, based on how the NFL values future picks, a very high second is good value for a future first. I'm not saying I'd be in favor of such a move, I'm just saying the value would be in-line.
And you would be right.

Next year is supposed to be a great year to draft a franchise QB and Clowney will be coming out. I don't see any players in this draft that are worth giving up the chance at one of the '14 QBs or Clowney.

Correct.

No, I think we will be drafting top 15 next year.

If you keep all your picks it is much easier to move into the top 5 for a difference maker.
