Trading back

We all aware that this draft class has more elite offensive players at the top. As of right now, there could be only 3-4 top 10 defensive prospects. Make no mistake, none of these players are on the level of Chase Young, Jalen Ramsey or Miles Garrett.

With all this being said and the team needing so much help throughout the defense, wouldn't it make sense to trade back and obtain additional selections as the talent drop-off from say 10-20 isn't too great.

We would need a player on the board another team is willing to trade up for. What are a few names that could entice a team to make a move, let's also keep in mind, the Giants sit right behind us:

QB-Trey Lance
WR-DeVonta Smith
TE-Kyle Pitts
T-Rashaun Slater
LB-Parsons
CB-Farley/Surtain

Would you be willing to trade away from one of these 10 prospects for an additional 3rd or even another 2nd rd pick?

I’m warming up to staying put or moving back.

It’s be nice to trade back and add picks but I’d be hard pressed to move if a top defender or OT was there.

It’s possible both corners and Parsons are gone, with a high level offensive player left on the board. I would rather find a trading partner then reaching to fill a need with a lesser player

Of course it makes sense to trade back but it always takes two to tango. It just depends on what prospect is falling and would be there at #10 that some team behind us really wants.

I doubt that both corners and Parsons will be gone at 10. Maybe 1 of them will be drafted by 10. More then likely we will have a choice at 10. As a matter of fact I think not playing last season will hurt Farley and Parsons with teams. Defensive players are supposed to be aggressive and hungry. Sitting out a year makes you appear soft. I feel comfortable that Surtain or Collins could walk into and start on our defense without any issues. I think Parsons and Farley would have a tough transition.

You have to be careful trading back because there appears to be very few trade back options that would still get us a blue chip prospect. I wonder if we could get a 2nd from San Francisco Wilson or Lance is still on the board. San Francisco is at 15 they would probably give up a two to move up for a quarterback. The Cowboys have a plan so it should be fun to see what they will do.

Jerry is routinely beaten in draft trades, so much so that the Cowboys had to invent their own draft pick value chart.

It is referred to around the league as "the Jerry tax"

So if a team wants to call us and has an ounce of desperation or is really determined, maybe we get close to fair value. Otherwise, no thanks to these yahoos engineering draft day trades.

If the two CB's are not there...than I would welcome a TRADE. I think after that you get the same player from around 11-25.

I doubt this happens but If that’s the case you likely have DE1 or OT2 available. You can trade down but you don’t need to reach for another position bc we have needs everywhere.

Think it's a possible scenario that all 3 are off the board.

I am not sure there will be a DE or a T that's valued as a top 10 pick. Slater is the one who has a chance, but right now there isn't 1 defensive lineman worthy of that selection. Of coarse, things will change once the off-season starts.

I believe it's a possible scenario at this juncture. When you say be careful trading away from blue chip talent, this draft class doesn't have many at all, especially after the top 5. My point is, if the talent drop-off isn't great from say pick 10 to 20, makes a lot of sense to see if they can trade back and obtain an additional pick.

The last big trade down was made with the 49ers, where they should of gotten a 2nd rather then a 3rd received. The trade was still a major win for the team as they got 2 day 1, productive starters in the deal: Frederick, Terrence Williams.

When I see the Giants right behind us, having similar needs on offense as we do on defense, a team might want to jump in front of them for:

WR-D. Smith
TE-Pitts
T-Slater

I think there’s a few stud OTs in the first round this year. Slater and Darrisaw are quality options. The value of the position is going to shoot guys like them and others up.

You may not like upside picks, and that’s just a matter of opinion and preference, but teams are going to love the traits and upside of both Rousseau and Paye. I’d be shocked if one of them isn’t selected near our pick.

This the hardest season to scout. Hopefully they will let the players fly in for individual team meetings. I think the Cowboys board is different then the draftnicks. The Cowboys gave Diggs a first round grade and thought CeeDee was a top 6 player. Already there are rumors that they love Collins from Tulsa. Pauline, a draft insider said right now he is hearing Collins will be a top 12 pick, I bet that information came from the Cowboys. I have seen players like Joe Horne as high as top 12 and as late as the middle of the second round. I think the Cowboys have plenty of picks in the first 4 rounds to eventually get 3 starters on the defense at each level. They don’t have to trade down unless they get an offer they cannot refuse and that is what I want.

They were beaten badly in that deal. The fact that landed a great player in Frederick doesn't change that they did not receive equal value n trading down. Terence Williams was a meh player and overrated here. So much so that when the Cowboys finally figured out and moved on, not a single team was interested in him. He was even cut by the St.Louis (XFL) Battlehawks.

Another thing I hated about Terrence Williams...Keenan Allen went two picks later.

There are gonna be teams salvating at moving up for a QB. The part we have to watch is clear. How far back so we can still get a player we want and gain the highest pick possible?
My point is
The Pat's look like they want a QB. Although this can change if Jimmy G gets traded there or Wentz or something like that happens. Maybe Sam Darnold is a good fit in New England?

But if we can pull a trade where we add let's say our 1st and a 4th plus a 4th next year for there 1st three picks this year so they get someone they covet for the future we have to really consider it.

Just saying, even though they took less to move down, they still won the trade. No matter what we think of Terrence, he still was a decent starter for several years, kind of like Eric Reid was for the 49ers, but we did also get Frederick in that deal.

With the defense being so bad, an extra 3rd rd pick is probably another, quality, starter on this team.

If I remember correctly, the Cowboys had a high 2nd rd grade on Diggs. Where they were picking, if they got shutout of all their 1st rd graded players, Diggs was in consideration in rd 1.

It depends who is on the board, but if they a list of players with a similar grade, why not try to land an additional pick and another starter.

You maybe right. It's still too early to tell how things are going to shake out. Players are going to rise.
