Some of you may know I’m not a big fan of TC only because the hype and buildup usually far exceeds reality. But it’s football and I’m glad to see the return of the oblong pigskin for a hopefully great 2025 Cowboys season. Training camp is about to start!

For those of you who do enjoy training camp and pre-season games, more power to you. I just don’t get too excited about much until the real games that count in the standings begin in September. But I respect those of you who do enjoy TC and all that it means.

This year’s training camp is a little more interesting with a new coaching staff and lots of new faces on the roster.

Here are my predictions for 2025 Cowboys TC, some tongue-in-cheek of course, some serious.
  • Jerry will get choked up Tuesday at some point during his annual “State of the Cowboys” presser along with setting a new world record for number of “uhs” spoken in one presser. And Stephen will giggle a lot, and our new head coach will smile a lot since he won’t get to talk much.
  • Several guys who will probably never play a meaningful down of NFL football will be raved about as “having a great camp” by beat writers, Jerry and a few coaches and players. Then get cut in early Sept. never to be seen again, LOL!
  • A deep backup WR will make a circus catch that goes viral yet he won’t make the final 53.
  • We will learn a lot about what our current RB roster can can’t do in TC and PS games.
  • Mazi Smith will start slow, look good and bad, and be raved about by Jerry and the coaches. Then will play about 30% of the snaps next season.
  • The offense will look sluggish at first. Fans will overreact. Patience will be required.
  • The Cowboys will lose the first PS game. It has become an annual event. Doesn’t matter. We are 1-8 in ps openers last decade, lol. (There were no ps games in 2020) And it means nothing anyway!
  • Fans will overreact to what they see in PS games. (PS games rarely indicate much of anything regarding how the team will perform when it matters)
  • Proof about how little PS games indicate what our season will be? We are 11-22 in PS games the last ten years, but we are 93-71 in regular season games the last decade.
  • This is a guarantee: We will see a very plain vanilla offense and defense during ps games. Because teams don’t game plan and want to hide what they really want to do when it matters.
If you enjoy TC and pre-season games, I respect that. Enjoy it all! I hope you can equally understand why I care so little.

Other than learning what some of our rookies and backups can do, most of what this team will be will remain hidden until the live bullets begin flying on Thurs night, Sept. 4th in Philly. For that, I will be genuinely excited.

Training camp and pre-season games are here! What do you like, what do you predict, etc?

Jerry and son will field 38 questions about Micah’s contract at the opener…..same as last year with Dak and Lamb

So is this the official 2025 season Training Camp thread? Or can we let a slighty more enthusiastic Training Camp fan start their own?

Whatever you are on, I would like some. Thanks for posting.

There was that time when the o'line played absolutely atrocious in pre season and it carried over through the entire regular season.
The most important position coach for a football team.

I love training camp and preseason games. Can’t get enough of them becuase it’s the first time to see if the hype has been real. I enjoy seeing the position battles play out and the overall team competition throughout. The outcomes of the games are meaningless but for the players, it’s been their dream since they were old enough to have em and is fun to watch.

I’m really perplexed you feel the way you do Bob but respect your opinion.

Like I said earlier, what wears me out about TC and PS is the overall meaninglessness of it. Most of the players getting the most playing time and pub we won’t see much in the games that count.

So to me, in that sense much of the next few weeks are not indicative of what this team will be - good or bad.

But I completely understand and support anyone who enjoys TC and PS games.

Training camp isnt for the fans or established players, its really trying to fill out the last 10 roster spots and praying the guys you drafted / traded / signed in FA are doing well.

And the fact that pre-season games cost the same as a regular season game means it’s also for the owners.
